Course Title: Native Studies Teachable

Course Description
This is a (teachable) option course for J/I BEd candidates in Native Studies. This course covers Indigenous content in relation
to teaching and education for the intermediate grades (4-10). The course will focus on Indigenous methods of teaching while
using the Ministry of Education’s curriculum expectations as a guiding framework. This course will be inclusive of the four
directions of overall wellbeing. Each class will explore how to create lessons with Indigenous content as the foundation while
also learning how to add content from other subject areas, The Arts, Science and Technology, Mathematics, Language Arts,
Health and Physical Education. The student is also expected to take one formal training sessions to help support Indigenous
student mental health. Ministry policies that support Indigenous Education will be utilized and the student will investigate
contemporary issues that affect student wellbeing. Lastly, the student will analyze alternative education programs and
education authorities that exist in Ontario for First Nation, Metis, and Inuit students.
