Position Summary: Prefera Finance is in search of a self-driven, motivated, enthusiastic team player who possesses a positive can-do attitude to join our fast-growing Recovery Team within the consumer finance industry as a full-time, permanent Bilingual Write-Off & Recovery Specialist, reporting directly to the Senior Recovery Manager.
Do you possess a keen attention to detail, an ability to follow leads to find customers and strength in negotiating loan settlements to resolve loan write-offs? In this combined role, your daily tasks will include working with bailiff service providers to recover assets from clients who have defaulted on their loan obligations, in addition to overseeing and tracking the inventory of repossessed or returned assets. It is crucial to have strong investigative and networking skills as you trace and manage post-write-off customer accounts where prior efforts to locate and/or establish contact have been unsuccessful.
Additionally, you will work closely with the Recovery and Paralegal teams to provide bailiff partners with up-to-date information and loan status reports, while supporting these internal departments with various other key recovery functions.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates the repossession of secured assets while compliant with legal requirements and company policy.
- Review RSLA and PPSA liens registration to assess lien priority and perfection.
- Manage and maintain accurate records and track the inventory of repossession or returned assets.
- Update customer account records and fees, including but not limited to Bailiff invoice fees, recovery fees, lien registration fees, NSF fees, search and title fees, etc.
- Support the remarketing team regarding asset disposition.
- Provide Deficiency balance letters post-sale of an asset when a deficiency balance exists.
- Issue Notice of Intent to lien holders when assets have been recovered.
- Initiate communication with defaulted customers to negotiate payment arrangements and/or for the return of financed assets.
- Strive to decrease the loss rate of the write-off queue and achieve recoveries in accordance with the established monthly and annual targets.
- Seek and gather relevant information, locate clients using various tools such as Can411, Review/Pull Credit Bureau Reports (TU/EQ), social media platforms, etc. to assist the Recovery and Paralegal teams.
- Establish contact with customers, negotiate payment plans and settlements with debtors towards a positive resolution and provide up-to-date written correspondence.
- Investigate and resolve customer disputes.
- Aid in the identification of recoverable and unrecoverable assets or clients, aiming to minimize total losses.
- Maintain precise and thorough documentation of customer details within the company's software system by keeping computerized notes and updating information related to residence, employment, and banking.
- Expected volume: 100 - 125 files while supporting other areas of the business.
- Attend and contribute to monthly meetings, while identifying areas of opportunity.
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and are fluent in English and French
- Strong negotiation & problem-solving skills for interacting with vendors and customers.
- Excellent customer service and phone etiquette.
- Ability to navigate through challenging situations with professionalism and empathy and communicate effectively with diverse individuals.
- Familiarity with provincial laws and regulations related to repossession and lien priorities.
- Strong decision-making skills.
- Organized Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Skip Tracing and understanding the Credit & Credit file fundamentals are assets.
- Out of the box problem solver.
- Proficient in social media platform searches and open-source tools.
- Strong development of personal contacts within the industry for trace and investigative assistance.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Ability to collaborate with other teams and departments.
Qualifications:
- Previous work experience in a Collections call-center work environment/equivalent
- Previous work experience in providing excellent Customer service
- 1-3 years of Skip trace experience (preferred)
- 1-3 years of experience in asset repossessions and supporting late-stage account recoveries
- General understanding of PPSA, RSLA registrations
- Previous experience in dispatching bailiff for asset recovery (preferred)
- Experience with Consumer Proposals and Consumer Bankruptcies
- Diploma/Certificate in a related industry is an asset, but not required
- Knowledge in Microsoft Office, previous work experience with Excel is an asset
- Bilingual (English & French required)
Shift Times:
- Days Of Operation: Monday to Saturday, between the hours of 8 am to 7 pm, 8-hour shift (5 days per week) –May change depending on business needs.
Salary Expectations:
- $47,500 - $52,500/year depending on experience
