Landmark East School is an independent co-educational day and boarding school serving students in Grades 3 to 12 with learning differences, including Dyslexia, Attention Deficit Disorder, and more. Located in the welcoming university town of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, in the beautiful Annapolis Valley, Landmark East School offers educators the opportunity to be part of something truly transformative. Position Requirements:
1. Respect the dignity and rights of all students.
2. Ensure the highest level of professionalism at all times, on and off campus, when interacting with students, staff and parents.
3. Diligently plan, prepare and teach the courses of study as prescribed by the school.
4. Implement teaching strategies that foster a positive learning environment aimed at helping students achieve the learning outcomes.
5. Encourage and engage students in the pursuit of learning.
6. Monitor the effectiveness of the teaching strategies used by analyzing outcomes achieved.
7. Acknowledge and, to the extent reasonable, accommodate differences in learning styles.
8. Participate in individual program planning and implement individual program plans as required.
9. Conduct such assessments and evaluations as are necessary and required to effectively document student progress.
10. Take all reasonable steps necessary to create and maintain an orderly and safe learning environment.
11. Attend to disciplinary matters that arise in the teacher’s classroom, including but not limited to, holding students accountable when a pattern of tardiness to class is
established.
12. Maintain appropriate order and discipline in the school and classroom.
13. Attend to the health, comfort, personal growth and safety of all students.
14. Keep accurate attendance records and report absent students as prescribed by school policies.
15. Communicate regularly, effectively and in a timely manner with parents in accordance with the policies and guidelines established by the school.
16. Serve, to the extent reasonable, on committees (at least two) established within the school to improve student achievement and success.
18. Implement initiatives, programs and courses and participate in training as prescribed by the school.
19. Regularly review learning expectations and progress with your students.
20. Prepare for use in the teacher’s class or classes such as teaching plans and outlines as are required by the Academic Directors and submit the plans and outlines to the Academic
Directors as required.
21. Ensure that all progress reports are fully and properly completed and processed in accordance with school guidelines.
22. Participate in regular meetings with students’ parents or guardians.
23. Foster a positive atmosphere among students, colleagues and other school staff.
24. Act as an effective and regular member of a duty team.
Education, Training and Experience
- Bachelor of Education degree
- Nova Scotia Teaching Certificate
- Valid Driver’s License
- Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry
- Helpful to have current certification for Emergency First Aid and Mental Health First Aid is considered an asset
