Position: Financial Controller (CPA)
Location: Burnaby, BC (On-site)
Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Our team is expanding rapidly and we are looking to hire an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller with a CPA designation to join our team on-site in our Burnaby location.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Lead the Finance Function
Own and oversee the organization's complete finance function, including accounting, payroll, accounts payable, financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
2. Own Payroll Operations
Manage and approve payroll processing for all Canadian and U.S. employees, ensuring accurate and timely payroll execution, commissions, bonuses, benefits administration, statutory remittances, year-end payroll reporting, and compliance with federal, provincial, state, and local legislation.
3. Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare, review, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, management reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial performance analysis to support executive decision-making.
4. Budgeting & Financial Planning
Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, monitor financial performance against targets, and provide recommendations to improve profitability, efficiency, and cash flow management.
5. Audit, Tax & Compliance Management
Lead year-end audit preparation and execution, coordinate with external auditors and accounting firms, oversee year-end payroll slips (T4s, T4As, and applicable U.S. reporting), and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
6. Accounts Payable & Expense Oversight
Supervise the Accounts Payable function, including vendor payments, contractor invoices, employee expense reimbursements, corporate credit card reconciliation, and monthly expense reporting.
7. Financial Controls, Policies & Procedures
Develop, implement, and maintain financial, payroll, purchasing, and expense management policies while ensuring appropriate controls, approvals, documentation, and accountability measures are in place.
8. Monitor Financial Health & Risk
Provide ongoing oversight of organizational financial health, including cash flow, profitability, payroll costs, operating expenses, working capital, and financial risk management.
9. Team Leadership & Development
Lead, mentor, and develop finance team members and external service providers, building accountability, leadership capability, and operational excellence while ensuring critical deadlines are consistently achieved.
10. Systems, Process Improvement & Scalability
Drive continuous improvement through automation, technology adoption, and process optimization across QuickBooks Online, payroll platforms, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and other financial systems to support organizational growth.
KEY COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- Prior experience in full-cycle accounting
- Experience working in a regulatory environment
- Attention to detail and critical thinking skills; excellent documentation and reporting experience
- Computer skills (Microsoft 365 suite including Outlook, Teams, Sharepoint, OneDrive, Dynamics; Adobe Acrobat; Zoom; etc)
- Excellent time management
- Experience with handling confidential information
- Strong analytical abilities, accounting knowledge, good leadership and communication skills, and proficient use of financial software (Sage)
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:
- 5+ years working as a Controller, Director of Finance, or CFO.
- Minimum 5-7 years relevant Canadian experience
- 2+ years of experience owning your role as a Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager in a public practice firm
- Educational background pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting or Finance with an accredited institution
- Technically versed in cloud-based accounting software systems, such as QuickBooks Online and Xero
- Exceptionally communication and listening abilities to identify client needs, brainstorm solutions, and exceed client expectations

Pay: $120,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
