Buddy’s Place is a group of licensed, independent cannabis retail stores rooted in the Kootenays of British Columbia. Our mission is to be the region’s destination for quality cannabis culture, knowledgeable service, and welcoming retail experiences.
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Store Manager to lead our Nelson location during a maternity leave. This role combines retail leadership, inventory and procurement management, regulatory compliance, and customer experience oversight.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Inventory Management
Manage cannabis purchasing through BC Cannabis Wholesale (LDB Distribution) and approved direct delivery suppliers.
Develop and maintain a diverse, high-performing product assortment across all categories.
Monitor inventory levels, sales trends, and customer demand to make informed purchasing decisions.
Manage purchasing budgets and inventory targets while maximizing product availability and profitability.
Build and maintain relationships with supplier representatives and industry partners.
Evaluate new products and emerging market trends to ensure a competitive and relevant selection.
Receive, verify, and process cannabis inventory purchase orders.
Coordinate inventory counts, audits, and stock management procedures.
Leadership & Team Development
Lead, coach, and support a high-performing retail team.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable workplace culture.
Provide ongoing training, product education, and performance feedback.
Coordinate staffing schedules and ensure adequate shift coverage.
Lead by example through exceptional customer service and professionalism.
Store Operations
Oversee daily retail operations to ensure a clean, organized, and welcoming environment.
Assign daily tasks and manage workflow priorities.
Communicate new product information, promotions, and operational updates to staff.
Manage customer concerns, returns, exchanges, and feedback professionally.
Maintain digital displays, and in-store merchandising.
Monitor office, cleaning, and operational supply inventories.
Troubleshoot and coordinate resolution of basic technical issues.
Compliance & Financial Management
Ensure compliance with all provincial and federal cannabis regulations.
Manage cash handling procedures, floats, and deposit reconciliation.
Support inventory audits and compliance inspections.
Maintain accurate operational records and reporting.
Oversee waste disposal and recycling procedures in accordance with regulations and company standards.
Communication & Continuous Improvement
Work closely with ownership, and store leadership teams.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, profitability, and customer experience.
Stay current on cannabis products, regulations, and industry trends.
Support company initiatives, promotions, and special projects as required.
Qualifications
Must be 19 years of age or older.
Valid Selling It Right certification.
Minimum 2 years of retail or service management experience.
Minimum 2 years of experience in the cannabis industry.
Demonstrated experience with inventory management, purchasing, or procurement.
Strong understanding of cannabis products and consumer trends.
Excellent leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
Ability to analyze sales data and make informed inventory decisions.
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced retail environment.
Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends as required.
Resident of Nelson or the surrounding area.
