Nanaimo, BC (VIU Student Housing Project)
We are currently seeking an experienced Hoist Operator to support a large-scale student housing construction project in Nanaimo, BC. This is a key role responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a personnel and materials hoist within a high-rise environment. Your work will directly contribute to site productivity, safety, and overall project success.

Safely operate personnel and material hoists in accordance with site policies and manufacturer guidelines

Transport workers, tools, and construction materials between building levels

Perform daily pre-operational inspections and report any safety or mechanical concerns

Ensure all loads are secure and within rated capacity limits

Maintain clear communication with ground crews, signalers, and supervisors
-
Adhere to all provincial safety regulations and site procedures

Keep hoist landings clean, organized, and hazard-free

Maintain logs for usage, maintenance, and operational activity

Respond effectively to emergencies or changing site conditions

Support site logistics by coordinating movements to reduce congestion and downtime
Required:
-
Minimum 2+ years of hoist operating experience in commercial construction

Valid Hoist Operator Certification

Strong communication skills and a professional, team-oriented attitude

Reliable attendance and commitment to safety
Preferred:

Experience with hand and power tools

Carpentry or general construction experience

Telehandler or Zoom Boom operating experience
