Senior Leadership Opportunity — Tributary Hospitality (Civil Cinematic Universe)
Toronto, ON
We're looking for someone. Do you know them? Are you them? We’re hiring for multiple senior leadership positions within our company. Some full-time, some contract. We won't say exactly who yet, because the right person will read this and know.
Who We Are
Tributary Hospitality operates a seven-concept portfolio across Toronto: Civil Liberties, Civil Works, Electric Bill, Miracle Toronto &Harbourfront, Third Place Toronto, and Vit Beo. We don't just operate venues. We build rooms people remember, we run businesses that turn EBITDA even in a down market, and we produce some of the top-trained talent in the city. Once you work with us, we’re certain someone will try to poach you as you grow (which we love to see), but we will give you a reason to stick around. Our community and culture are something we take pride in. We aim for you to be the best candidate for this role or your next one after working alongside us.
Never heard of us? A few things worth mentioning (the list is long, so just the most relevant right now):
- Civil Liberties placed No. 4 on Canada's 100 Best Bars 2026 and earned a spot on North America's 50 Best Bars 2026. It was also named the top bar in Canada in both 2022 and 2023.
- Civil Works ranked No. 29 on North America's 50 Best Bars 2026 and No. 16 on Canada's 100 Best, a sharp climb in only its second year.
- Our co-owner, Nick Kennedy, was named Innovator of the Year by Canada's 100 Best in 2025. I would strike
We're proud of the accolades, but honestly, we're more proud of how we got there (because anyone who's worked in hospitality knows the road to success is not linear, and the way forward is often unclear)That's why we have our mission statements to help us.
What We Live By
These aren't poster words (imagine that ‘hang in there’ kitten poster). They're how we hire, how we lead, and how we , and how we coach accountability. Work with us, and you’ll be hearing these things a lot.
Our values:
- Kind Over Cool
- Upstairs Not Above
- Curious Before Experts
- Responsible Over Agreeable
- Community Before Self
Our pillars: Teamwork, Technical Ability, and Job Engagement, with Transparency, Resilience, and Communitas guiding how we lead. Our mission is simple: We serve at the pleasure of our guests.
If you read "Kind Over Cool" and felt something click, keep going.
What These Roles Are
These are senior leadership positions with significant management support for the business. You'll work hand in hand with our Director of Operations and take real accountability, including financial reporting, teaching you new skills and/or refining the existing ones you have.
We're being deliberately vague about the title because we're looking for the person, not the resume keyword. If the following sounds like you, keep reading. Sounds like someone you want to be? Let’s still catch. If it sounds like a stretch, this probably isn't the role for you, but we’d love to know if you have someone in mind. Who You Are
You love cocktails and hospitality. Not as a job, as a craft you can't stop thinking about. You're active in the Toronto bar community. You enter competitions, attend seminars, keep learning, and bring others along when you do. You teach as naturally as you compete.
You lead with kindness over cool, and you mean it. You believe community comes before self, and you've built rooms that prove it.
You count and reconcile inventory yourself, and you know what variance issues will arise before the report comes out. Numbers don't intimidate you; they tell you a story. You are curious about the numbers that make a business run, and you care passionately about your team as a whole, and individually.
You can sit in front of executive leadership and report on the financials with clarity. When you have questions, you ask for help. You know your venue's P&L as well as you know your own name. You can answer yesterday's labour % when someone asks you in the morning, and have the good, the bad, and the ugly, with solutions and next steps, ready. You know what's happening with R&D, and you keep a tight calendar to keep your supervisors and execs informed without them having to ask you.
We have high standards, and you hold the line on it, on the floor, in the back office, and in every quiet moment when nobody's watching. You do the right thing, without being prompted, every time.
And you develop people. This part matters most. You have a real, proven track record of coaching others and seeing them improve because of you. We can teach systems. We're looking for someone who already knows how to grow talent.
