JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Lead Business Systems Analyst (Agile/User Stories).
Reporting to the Manager, IT Product Delivery, this position is responsible on documenting functional and technical specifications for integrations and interfaces between legacy systems and enterprise middleware (e.g., ESB/iPaaS/API platforms, message brokers). This role partners closely with business stakeholders, integration developers, architects, QA, and operations to translate business needs into clear, testable, implementation-ready integration requirements and interface designs.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Produce high-quality documentation, such as: Functional Specifications for integrations (scope, triggers, workflow, business rules, exceptions),Technical Specifications (interface contracts, message schemas, field-level mappings, sequencing, NFRs),Source-to-target mapping documents, canonical model mappings, and transformation logic, Interface details including API, file-based, batch, event/message-based patterns (REST/SOAP, SFTP, MQ/Kafka, etc.).• Document integration behaviors end-to-end: triggers, routing, orchestration, acknowledgements, retries, idempotency, reconciliation, and failure scenarios.
- Maintain versioned documentation and ensure alignment across stakeholders (business, architecture, development, QA, and support).
- Data and Interface design support including: Partnering with solution/integration architects to validate integration patterns, sequencing, and middleware capabilities, collaborate with data stakeholders to define data ownership, system of record, data quality expectations, and reference
- Derive testable acceptance criteria and support QA with: /master data dependencies.
- Define integration NFRs including performance, throughput, batch windows, availability, monitoring/alerting, logging, auditability, and security.
- Elicit and analyze requirements for system-to-system integrations, data exchanges, and interface changes across legacy applications and middleware platforms.
- Facilitate discovery sessions to understand current-state processes, data flows, constraints, and pain points; define future-state integration behavior.
- Define and maintain business rules, data transformation rules, validation rules, and error-handling requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A four-year university degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics plus 1 year of concentrated study in Business, with 8–10 years of progressive experience in business analysis and integration-focused roles.
- Proven experience documenting functional and technical specifications for system integrations, including APIs, middleware, and legacy systems.
- Strong expertise in interface design concepts such as REST/SOAP APIs, file-based integrations, messaging systems (e.g., MQ, Kafka), and batch processing.
- Demonstrated experience creating source-to-target mappings, data transformation rules, and canonical data models for enterprise systems.
- Solid understanding of integration architecture patterns (ESB, iPaaS, event-driven) and ability to collaborate effectively with solution/integration architects.
- Experience eliciting and documenting business and system requirements, including facilitating discovery sessions and translating needs into testable acceptance criteria.
- Strong knowledge of non-functional requirements (NFRs), including performance, scalability, availability, monitoring, logging, and security.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and documentation skills, with the ability to align business, technical, QA, and operations teams.
