MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Completion of a formal training program of studies in a related discipline from a recognized institution plus some additional directly related experience required.
EXPERIENCE:
- One year directly related recent retail sales, cashiering experience with a computerized POS and customer service experience required, preferably in a book store environment.
- Familiarity with university courses and courseware materials. Knowledge of the Missouri Book System (MBS) Database System a definite asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must have a thorough understanding of retail principles and how to provide consistent, excellent customer service.
- Ability to follow instructions and operate a computer required.
- Must possess strong numeracy skills.
- Demonstrated ability to perform with a high degree of accuracy with cash, figures and details, and keep accurate records in a high volume, fast paced environment and attention to detail is required.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate positively and effectively with the public is required.
- Must have a positive attitude toward co-workers, the workplace and the tasks of the job.
- Must demonstrate positive body language and consistently have a positive demeanor.
- Must be approachable, open to feedback, and consciously aware of the impact of attitude on others.
- Good oral and written English communication skills are required.
- Must exhibit a pleasant and courteous manner.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
OTHER JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties as assigned, in particular, standing for long periods of time and some heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs).
- Must be available to work for minimum 3 hour shifts during peak hours throughout regular academic term, particularly during Rush periods.
- This position has vacation restrictions in August, September and January.
- Operate computerized Point‑of‑Sale system, process customer purchases and receive payment, issue change and package merchandise if required.
- Anticipate change required and take delivery of same from Accounting Office.
- Control float and make up cash deposit at close of shift.
- Keep cash register area clean and supplied with register tape, bags, etc. Keep candy counter stocked and clean.
- Provide knowledgeable and courteous customer service to customers on the Selling Floor and over the telephone using a computer to access information.
- Answer inquiries regarding course textbook requirements, the status of book orders and availability of course materials.
- Responsible for stocking, monitoring and cleaning shelves and selling floor.
- Act as a liaison between customers and Buyers ensuring buyers are informed of stock levels.
- Responsible for the accurate shelving of returns.
- Perform duties of Call Centre which include answering telephone inquiries, taking orders and filling orders.
- Works in Cash Room to sort, count, roll, box and prepare coin for daily deposit.
- Assists Online Department by picking and packing product for orders and attending the pickup window, retrieving completed orders for customers and entering information in database.
- Assists in Merchandise Distribution as required, including but not limited to: processing and ticketing product, receive shipments, shrink wrapping, move product in warehouse, and stock shelves on sales floor.
- Assists Shipping/Receiving with making on-campus deliveries, walking items by hand or cart, obtaining required signatures and relaying marketing messages.
- Assists with greeting customers and monitoring customers entering store, assists with crowd/line up control.
- Perform customer service duties in BookStore departments as assigned or required.
- Maintain an awareness of all areas of the BookStore. Assists customers with basic inquires and calls for department assistance as required. Responsible to monitor their area and be aware of security threats and report any suspicious activity to a manager.
- Monitors aisles and shelves for misplaced product or packaging.
- Participate in setting up and arranging the Selling Floor for peak periods. This involves removing items and systematically filing them in the stockroom.
- May perform receptionist duties, receiving, screening and referring visitors and calls, taking messages, providing routine information and receiving courier packages, filing and routine record keeping and data entry functions, and other general office duties.
- Provides customer service and performs their duties in a way that acknowledges and respects diversity and complies with accessibility standards set out in the Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA).

- Perform basic customer service duties in other areas of the store as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
0 to 35.00 hours/week job may vary in length from a few weeks up to a max. of 6 months. Must be available to work daytime shifts during Aug-Oct and work shifts of no less than 3 hours
