Role Overview
The Quality Technician is responsible for the preparation of production, geological, and process samples for laboratory analysis. This role supports the reliability of operational and technical decision-making by ensuring samples are processed safely, consistently, and in accordance with quality control and traceability requirements. This role owns the sample preparation and bucking room process and is accountable for ensuring samples are prepared without backlog, rework, or quality deviation. This is an on-site role in Bernic Lake, MB.
What You Will Do
Safety and compliance
- Follow all site safety procedures, including PPE requirements and safe work practices
- Complete job safety analyses (JSAs) where required
- Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant work environment
- Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and incident reporting
Sample preparation and processing
- Receive, verify, and track incoming samples from Mill, Mine, and other departments
- Prepare samples for analysis, crushing, pulverizing, splitting, mixing, and packaging
- Ensure all samples meet required specifications prior to laboratory analysis
- Manage multiple sample streams, including production, geological, plant, and R&D samples
Quality control and sample integrity
- Maintain strict chain of custody and full traceability of all samples from receipt to handoff
- Prevent contamination through proper cleaning, handling, and workflow practices
- Identify and escalate any sample quality issues, inconsistencies, or deviations
- Follow established QA/QC procedures and laboratory standards
- Equipment operation and maintenance
- Operate and maintain sample preparation equipment, including crushers, pulverizers, balances, and sample splitters
- Perform routine inspection, cleaning, and minor maintenance of equipment
- Identify and report equipment issues impacting performance, safety, or throughput
Workflow and throughput management
- Prioritize samples based on operational and laboratory requirements
- Monitor sample volumes and manage workflow to maintain turnaround expectations
- Identify, communicate, and escalate backlog risks or capacity constraints
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment
Reporting and documentation
- Maintain accurate records of sample tracking, preparation, and throughput
- Complete logs, documentation, and reporting related to sample preparation activities
- Support reporting requirements for production, laboratory, and quality systems
What You Bring
Education & Experience
- High school diploma required
- Post-secondary education in a related discipline (Chemistry, Laboratory Technology, Mining, Environmental) is an asset
- Experience in sample preparation, laboratory work, or mineral processing preferred
- Experience in a mining or industrial environment is an asset
