The base salary will be $70,560 - $100,680 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

Please note, this position is a 22-month full-time contract opportunity.

About Us

The Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of six Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Communication Sciences and Disorders), a large Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and four Research Centres. The Faculty has more than 3,200 undergraduate students and more than 800 graduate students (200 PhD students).

The Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing educates nurses who are reflective practitioners and provides recognized leadership in nursing research, theory, practice, and policy advancements. Our research programs seek to develop knowledge capable of enhancing health equity by transforming practice, services, education and policies that affect health and well-being across the lifespan. Research programs reflect 5 overlapping areas of strength: Women’s Health; Violence, Gender and Health; Digital Health; Mental Health; and Global and Indigenous Health.

As the Scientific Director and Principal Investigator of the Partnership for the Engagement of People in Pain Research (PEPR), Professor Fiona Webster leads a large, externally funded research program in the area of chronic pain, patient engagement, and marginalization. Her research includes a focus on re-conceptualizing our understandings of the experiences of chronic pain and marginalization through critical social science and social justice lenses.

Responsibilities

The Research Manager will directly manage the 5-year SSHRC funded National PEPR Partnership and be involved with all external stakeholders. Reporting to and working closely with Professor Webster, the Research Manager provides overall operational, financial, and administrative management for the PEPR Partnership, including administrative and logistical functions. They ensure that resources, systems, and governance structures are in place to support scientific and strategic goals. The Research Manager will apply their expertise and knowledge to support the coordination of ongoing research activities, under the direction of the Principal Investigator to help enable the smooth functioning of the Partnership, while ensuring accountability and ethical compliance. The Research Manager will contribute to funding report preparation and other reports as required by Professor Webster.

Qualifications

Education:

PhD in a Health or Social Science discipline, with a focus on Critical Theory and Health Equity
TCPS CORE II certification

Experience:

4 years experience managing qualitative research administration and research projects in an academic environment with experience managing and monitoring externally funded research budgets
3 years’ experience conducting critical qualitative social science research in the area(s) of chronic pain, patient engagement, health equity/social justice, in an academic setting
Experience writing reports, proposals, and academic papers
Experience with various critical social science research methodologies, data collection techniques, and ethical considerations
Experience leading and/or contributing to research and peer-reviewed publications in areas that are relevant to this research
Experience working in inter-disciplinary teams of researchers and non-academic partners

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

In-depth knowledge of chronic pain, patient engagement and of common issues experienced by marginalized populations
Demonstrated knowledge of critical qualitative research principles and methods
Knowledge of publication processes with demonstrated expertise leading and/or contributing to peer-review publications with superior writing skills
Ability to work within a flexible schedule and in a fluid and evolving work environment with changing deadlines and priorities and meet deadlines
Solid judgment and ethical conduct including ability to maintain confidentiality, tact and discretion
Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively and collaboratively in a team environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop effective, professional, mutually beneficial relationships with varied stakeholders (e.g. academics, students, service providers, policy makers)
Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
Ability to ensure confidentiality and privacy is maintained through the appropriate retention and destruction of information
Attention to detail with an ability to retrieve, analyze and synthesize sizable amounts of data, while ensuring that information is accurate and comprehensive
Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
Advanced skills in software and applications used to produce reports and analyze research outcomes (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
