Job Summary
The HSF Group Fitness Instructor serves the mission of the YMCA of Lethbridge by conducting engaging and fulfilling group fitness classes. The main goals of this position are:
1. Ensure patrons are following proper safety guidelines.
2. Provide modifications to exercises for all levels of fitness.
3. Design and instruct group fitness classes while maintaining safe practices.
4. Benefits for part-time employees include a complimentary membership and pension plan.

Nature & Scope
The HSF Group Fitness Instructor will support the Association as part of the HSF team. The major responsibilities of this position are, but not limited to:
Leadership and Strategic Planning
- Exemplify the YMCA of Lethbridge’s Core Values of caring, honesty, inclusiveness, respect, and responsibility.
- Promote a positive, inclusive work environment, responding to general inquiries in a timely manner and in accordance with Association policies and guidelines.
- Be a YMCA ambassador by engaging in and promoting practices and frameworks which ensure diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Participate in the YMCA of Lethbridge’s health and safety program including incident management and emergency response when required.
- Identify and accurately report potential safety hazards.
- Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating effective listening and comprehensive skills to maintain working relationships.
Organizational and Department Management
- Contribute to the completion of administrative duties within HSF when required.
- Instruct group fitness classes.
- Continuously update and adjust fitness classes to accommodate patron needs and make necessary modifications.
- Provide instruction to new and existing members through safe practice weight-floor orientations and continually answering inquiries.
- Demonstrate how to use cardio, strength, and conditioning equipment and machines.
- Carry out tasks requiring significant concentration and the need to assess options or evaluate past practices using analytical methods and processes occasionally.
- Model best practices, upholding high standards for excellence in team implementations.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the HSF areas, ensuring equipment is clean and in good repair.
- Work in usually standardized conditions, under occasional supervision, with choice of action within defined limits to make progress towards assigned objectives.
- Ensure all assigned checklists, reports, and forms are completed in a timely manner.
- Report concerns to a member of the HSF leadership team.
- Facilitate programs and classes when required, as well as assisting with the set-up and take-down of programs and classes.
- Attend all required YMCA trainings and recertifications.
Financial Management and Philanthropic Involvement
- Model the Association’s dedication to philanthropy.
- Participate in Fund Development Initiatives to further the impact of team efforts.
- Adhere to the team’s annual budget.
External Relations and Advocacy
- Build positive relationships with members, patrons, employees, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
- Role model team initiatives and projects within the Association.
- Follow policies regarding confidentiality to safeguard data and information and handle sensitive information with a strong sense of ethics and confidentiality, in addition to all Association policies and guidelines.
- Participate in external growth opportunities in alignment with team goals.
Physical/Special Demands
· This position involves active instruction of fitness classes
· This position involves the ability to lift 20 kgs
· This position may include the ability to move and set up exercise equipment
Qualifications and Experience
· Current Intermediate First Aid and CPR Level C certifications are required
· Group Fitness Instructor certification is required
· Personal Trainer certification is considered an asset
· Evidence of an acceptable Police Information Check and Child Intervention Check
· Three professional references are required
· Yoga Certification
