DW Dirtworks Ltd. is seeking a Junior Estimator / Project Coordinator to support our estimating and project delivery functions. This role is responsible for analyzing costs and preparing estimates for construction projects, working throughout a project's lifecycle from predevelopment through post-construction. In this junior role, you will work closely with the owner and leadership team to prepare cost estimates, coordinate project details, and support our crews on excavation, earthworks, and underground utility projects across southern Alberta. This is a strong opportunity for someone early in their career to build a foundation in construction estimating and project coordination within a hands-on environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare cost estimates for excavation, earthworks, civil, and underground utility projects.
- Periodically visit job sites to gather information on site conditions, access, logistics, and resource availability.
- Support the calculation of material, equipment, and labor requirements, along with projected timelines.
- Help prepare cost summaries that account for subcontracts, overhead, and other project costs.
- Support communication with suppliers and subcontractors to gather pricing information.
- Track and compare actual project costs against estimates, and help maintain cost records for future reference.
- Coordinate scheduling, documentation, and communication between the office, field crews, and clients.
- Assist with tracking materials, equipment availability, and project files.
- Support the preparation of change orders and other project documentation.
- Collaborate with clients, foremen, and sub-trade crews on project details and adjustments.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Post-secondary diploma or certificate in construction management, engineering technology, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent hands-on construction or excavation experience will be considered.
- This is a junior-level position. Prior estimating or project coordination experience is an asset but not required for the right candidate.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills, with good attention to detail.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office (and or Google Workspace platforms); familiarity with estimating software is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license, with the ability to travel to job sites as required.
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively under deadlines and manage competing priorities.
- An interest in construction systems, earthworks, or the underground utility industry.
