Lethbridge Iron Works Ltd. is one of the leading jobbing iron foundries supplying iron castings across North America since 1898. Headquartered in Lethbridge, Alberta, we have since grown into an 110,000 square foot, modern, production foundry managed on a 7-acre expanse in Lethbridge’s industrial park.
We are looking for Hand Grinders to join our morning shift (5AM-1PM)
Role:
The Hand Grinder is responsible for the operation of the wheel grinder and reamers to clean castings to customer specifications. This is a physically demanding role, that involves repetitive tasks, attention to detail and requires standing for long periods of time.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Wear all the required PPE and follow all Health and Safety policies.
· Adhere to good housekeeping practices, keeping the area clean and free of hazards and turning off the grinding stone when not in use.
· Store tools correctly and report any damages to Lead Hand or Supervisor for repair.
· Maintain casting quality by inspecting for defects such as cold pours, sand inclusions, and stickers.
· Utilize gauges to ensure castings meet specifications.
· Segregate castings with defects for further inspection
· Adhere to all grinding instructions for removing excess metal off castings.
· Ensure touch-ups, grinding idle time, and grinding targets are achieved according to company standards.
· Troubleshoot equipment as necessary.
· Operate the ASRS drop system.
· Provide continuous improvement suggestions for Safety, Quality, and Production.
· Other duties as assigned.
Job Knowledge:
· High School Diploma or equivalent.
· Ability to work independently in a busy environment.
· Intermediate understanding of casting defects.
· Able to work well under pressure.
· Able to read and interpret written instructions.
· Mechanically inclined.

Work Conditions/Physical Requirements:
· Shift work
· Environmental Conditions: Indoor, extreme temperatures, fumes, dust, noise, heavy equipment, gases, and exposure to silica sand.
· Physical Demands: Lifting up to 50lbs, bending, twisting, hand/eye coordination, stand for long periods of time
· Required to wear steel toe boots and coveralls and other required PPE
· Required to wear safety mask at all times when in the plant.

Pay: $23.46 per hour
