Sandblaster (Union Position)

We are currently seeking a Sandblaster to join our manufacturing team in Edmonton, Alberta. This is a unionized position covered under the applicable Collective Agreement.
Position Summary
The Sandblaster is responsible for preparing metal surfaces for final finishing by removing rust, scale, contaminants, and other surface imperfections using abrasive blasting equipment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring products meet quality standards and are properly prepared for subsequent production processes.
The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate sandblasting and abrasive blasting equipment safely and efficiently
- Prepare metal surfaces by removing rust, mill scale, weld spatter, and other contaminants
- Inspect surfaces before and after blasting to ensure quality standards are met
- Load, position, and move materials within the work area as required
- Mask or protect areas that are not to be blasted
- Perform routine maintenance and housekeeping of blasting equipment and work areas
- Follow work instructions, production schedules, and quality requirements
- Identify and report equipment issues, material defects, or safety concerns
- Work collaboratively with fabrication, welding, quality control, and production teams
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum 1-2 years of industrial sandblasting or abrasive blasting experience
- Experience working in a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environment
- Ability to safely operate blasting equipment and related tools
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to read and follow work instructions and production documentation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physically capable of lifting, standing, bending, and performing repetitive tasks throughout the shift
- Ability to work overtime, shifts, and weekends as operational requirements dictate
Assets
- Experience working in heavy industrial manufacturing
- Forklift or overhead crane experience
- Experience working with pressure vessels, air coolers, or heat exchangers
- Familiarity with industrial safety standards and PPE requirements
Working Conditions
- Shop-based position within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment
- Exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures
- Use of respiratory protection and other required PPE
- Standing, walking, bending, lifting, and repetitive physical activity throughout the shift
