Bear Mountain Activity Centre is seeking experienced, enthusiastic, and service-driven Swim Instructors to join our growing aquatics team.
This role is ideal for individuals with a strong background in swim instruction who are confident working with swimmers of varying ages and abilities and who take pride in delivering safe, professional, and engaging aquatic programming.
About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, the Swim Instructor will be responsible for delivering high-quality swim instruction within the Bear Mountain Activity Centre pool.
Our instructors play an important role in creating a positive experience for swimmers and their families. You will be expected to provide structured, engaging instruction while adapting lessons to individual abilities, building swimmer confidence, and maintaining a strong focus on water safety.
Bear Mountain Activity Centre operates its aquatic programming in compliance with Lifesaving Society BC & Yukon standards and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, professional, and engaging swim lessons
- Provide instruction appropriate to each swimmer's age, ability, and level of confidence
- Assess swimmer abilities and adapt instruction to support individual progression
- Provide clear, positive, and constructive feedback to swimmers
- Create a welcoming and encouraging environment for participants and families
- Maintain appropriate supervision and a strong focus on water safety
- Prepare for scheduled lessons and maintain an organized pool deck and instructional environment
- Communicate professionally with participants, parents, fellow instructors, and Activity Centre staff
- Follow BMAC policies and applicable Lifesaving Society BC & Yukon standards and guidelines
- Assist with aquatic programming and other related services as required
- Contribute to the overall professional presentation and operation of the Activity Centre
Qualifications
- Previous swim instruction experience is strongly preferred
- Current recognized Swim Instructor certification
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR/AED certification
- Lifesaving Society certifications and additional aquatic qualifications are considered strong assets
- Experience working with children and families is considered an asset
- Strong understanding of water safety and appropriate aquatic supervision
- Ability to adapt instruction for different ages, abilities, and learning styles

Compensation & Employment
- Opportunities may include private, semi-private, and/or group swim instruction based on programming needs
- Evening and weekend availability required
- Scheduling will be based on programming and operational requirements

Experience
- Swim instruction: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification

Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
