COMPUTER TECHNICIAN – PART-TIME
Can you troubleshoot computers — not just build them?
JBJ Computers is looking for an experienced Computer Technician to join our team in Vernon.
We're not looking for someone who simply enjoys computers or has built a few gaming PCs. We need someone who already has a broad working knowledge of computers and knows how to troubleshoot them.
A large part of what we do is software troubleshooting and repair, along with hardware repairs, upgrades and custom builds.
What you'll be doing
You should already be comfortable with:
- Troubleshooting Windows and software problems
- Diagnosing slow, crashing or non-booting computers
- Virus/malware removal and system cleanups
- Windows installation, repair and configuration
- Data transfers and backups
- Installing and troubleshooting programs, drivers and peripherals
- Email, printer and basic networking issues
- Diagnosing hardware failures
- Replacing and upgrading computer components
- Building and setting up custom computers
- Working with both desktop and laptop systems
- Helping customers who may not be technically inclined
What we're looking for
We need someone with real hands-on computer troubleshooting experience and a wide range of computer knowledge.
Building your own computer is great experience, but computer-building experience alone is not enough for this position.
You don't need to know absolutely everything — nobody does — but you should have a strong enough foundation that when a computer comes through the door with a strange problem, you know where to start.
Customer service is also a big part of this job. We're a local computer shop, and our customers rely on us to explain technical problems in a way that actually makes sense.
We're a small team, so we're also looking for someone who is reliable, flexible and willing to work with us as our scheduling needs change.
Hours & Schedule
This is a part-time position with the possibility of becoming full-time.
Typical hours would be approximately 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, but we're looking for someone with some flexibility.
Hours and days may occasionally change depending on workload, staff holidays and coverage. There may be times when additional hours are available, including 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. shifts or the occasional Saturday.
We're happy to work with the right person on a schedule that works for both of us.
Wage
$20.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience and skill level.
Starting wage will be based on your existing computer knowledge, troubleshooting ability and previous experience, with opportunities for wage increases as you grow within the position.
Location & Eligibility
This is an in-person position at our Vernon, BC store.
Applicants must currently reside in the Vernon/Okanagan area and already be legally entitled to work in Canada.
We are not offering remote work, relocation assistance or immigration sponsorship for this position.
How to Apply
Please send us your resume along with a brief description of your previous computer repair, IT or troubleshooting experience.
We're looking for someone who already has a solid computer knowledge base, enjoys troubleshooting and wants to become part of a small local team.
