We are currently seeking a highly motivated Estimator & Purchaser to join our team in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. This is a full-time position based out of our shop and office location. For the right candidate, we offer competitive compensation and a signing bonus to help offset relocation costs.
About the Role
The Estimator & Purchaser plays a critical role in the success of our projects by preparing accurate estimates, managing purchasing activities, building supplier relationships, and supporting management in making informed bidding decisions.
This position requires a strong understanding of electrical construction, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:Estimating
· Prepare detailed estimates of labour, materials, and equipment costs for residential, commercial, industrial, and utility projects.
· Review contracts, tender documents, drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
· Determine labour requirements and anticipated project costs.
· Analyze project profitability and assist management in making sound bidding decisions.
· Identify opportunities to improve project margins and overall profitability.
· Prepare and submit competitive project bids in accordance with established guidelines.
· Participate in tender submissions and bid closing processes.
· Maintain accurate estimating records and documentation.
Purchasing & Procurement
· Establish, maintain, and strengthen relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, engineers, contractors, and industry partners.
· Obtain quotations and evaluate supplier pricing and product availability.
· Review supplier costs and negotiate pricing to secure the best value for the company.
· Coordinate material purchasing and procurement activities for ongoing projects.
· Monitor market trends and supplier performance.
· Ensure timely delivery of materials to support project schedules.
Communication & Collaboration
· Maintain clear communication with project managers, field crews, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
· Assist teams in overcoming project challenges through proactive planning and problem-solving.
· Support a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
· Minimum 2 years of experience in residential and/or commercial electrical estimating.
· Strong understanding of electrical construction methods, materials, and systems.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction drawings.
· Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
· Proficiency with computers and estimating software.
· Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
· Ability to maintain a clear driver’s abstract.
· Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
· Willingness to travel periodically throughout Saskatchewan and Canada.
· Flexible work hours as required.
Assets
· Saskatchewan or equivalent Provincial Journeyman Electrician Certificate.
· Additional estimating, project management, procurement, or construction-related certifications.
· Experience with commercial, industrial, utility, or large-scale construction projects.
