Assistant Centre Director
Job Overview
Kids Connection Childcare is seeking a dependable, compassionate and highly organized Assistant Centre Director to help lead the daily operation of our centre.
Working closely with the Centre Director, the Assistant Centre Director helps ensure that children receive safe, attentive and meaningful care, educators are supported, families receive timely communication and the centre remains organized and welcoming.
This is an active leadership position that combines administrative responsibilities, staff support and direct involvement in the classrooms. The successful candidate will be visible throughout the centre, notice what needs attention and follow through reliably.
Responsibilities
- Support the Centre Director with daily operations, centre priorities and consistent follow through.
- Provide day to day leadership when the Centre Director is unavailable, within the authority assigned to the role.
- Remain visible and engaged throughout the centre, monitoring classroom routines, supervision, staffing needs and the overall experience of children.
- Assist with staff schedules, breaks, attendance, classroom coverage and unexpected absences.
- Guide and support educators, provide constructive feedback and model professional communication, teamwork and accountability.
- Review the centre management dashboard throughout the day and follow up on incident reports, medication forms, family information changes, staff overtime requests and parent communication.
- Communicate with families warmly, professionally and accurately. Ensure emails and other family inquiries receive a response within one business day.
- Support centre tours, enrolment, family orientation and children’s transitions into their classrooms.
- Ensure documentation and records are complete, accurate, confidential and submitted on time.
- Support educators in providing developmentally appropriate programming that encourages children’s confidence, independence, curiosity and social development.
- Help maintain an inclusive environment where every child is known, valued and genuinely cared for.
- Support compliance with centre policies, licensing requirements and health and safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized and professional centre environment, including classrooms, shared spaces and staff areas.
- Participate in classroom routines, supervision and direct care when additional support or coverage is needed.
- Identify concerns promptly, take appropriate action and keep the Centre Director informed.
Qualifications
- Alberta Level 3 Early Childhood Educator certification, or eligibility to obtain certification before beginning employment.
- At least two years of experience working in a licensed child care or early learning setting.
- Previous experience as an Assistant Director, supervisor, room lead or senior educator is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of child development, inclusive care and developmentally appropriate programming.
- Knowledge of child care licensing, health and safety practices and professional documentation.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to guide staff respectfully and confidently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organization, judgment, initiative and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond calmly to changing operational needs.
- Comfortable using email, digital records and child care management systems.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification and the ability to meet all required employment screening requirements.
- Ability to participate fully in classroom activities and provide direct care when needed.
