Overview
Coastal Care Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital is hiring an experienced Veterinary Technician Assistant with a passion for emergency medicine and critical care. We value our support staff and highlight our VTAs as being integral. They help take X-rays, assist in surgery, run most of our lab work, help prepare prescriptions as well as provide husbandry and TLC to our patients. This position is unique with a focus on patient care, diagnostics and procedures with less administrative duties.

Technical abilities and skills:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with multiple specialty departments
- Solid foundation of triage, common emergencies
- Strong desire to provide the highest level of care for outpatients/walk ins, stable ER and critical cases
- Driven to continually improve and evolve through CE, mentorship, and exposure to advanced ECC procedures.
- Thrives in high-demand settings with a proactive and dependable approach
- Eager to assist with complex ICU cases such as ventilator patients and unstable metabolic emergencies
- Setting up, assisting and cleaning after surgical procedures
- Ability to think and act in emergent situations and with trauma cases
- Comfort operating multiple different softwares, cloud based medical records and troubleshooting IT issues
- Proficiency with safe handling of canine, feline and exotic animal patients with and without sedatives, proper patient placement for exams and procedures
- Capability running a high volume of in house laboratory tests from routine CBC and chemistry panels with IDEXX, to blood gas panels with Heska EPOC and Radiometer, digital cytology, blood typing and crossmatching, manual PCV/TS, V-Check and more.
- Consistency and follow through on preparing samples for shipment to outside laboratories, arranging pickup
- Safely lift and handle large dogs
- Professional comportment and proficient medical charting
Requirements:
- Preference for Graduate from a Veterinary Assistant program
- Preference of minimum 2-3 years in clinical setting.
- Prior experience working within an ER an asset
- Able to perform moderately physically demanding work that requires lifting (up to 50 pounds), cleaning, and constant motion, night shifts

Pay: $20-$25 based on experience/skills +$2.50/hr shift differential after midnight
Expected hours: 36hr/week even mix of days and nights, every other weekend and includes fair share of holidays
