We are looking for a passionate 3D Modeler to join our team. We are recognized as a leader in training and defence and work with international clients who require solutions and software to visualize complex equipment or detailed processes.We are looking for a 3D Modeller with strong technical art skills and experience creating efficient real-time content.
In this role, you will create, optimize, and maintain 3D assets used in interactive training and visualization solutions. Much of the work involves modifying and optimizing existing content, including CAD-derived models, for use in real-time environments. You will work closely with developers, designers, and subject matter experts to accurately represent complex equipment and systems while meeting performance and visual quality requirements.
This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys technical problem-solving and figuring out how things work. An interest in understanding equipment, assemblies, and mechanical systems will be an asset. We are looking for someone who can take available reference material and source data and turn it into efficient, high-quality assets for real-time use.
You should be comfortable learning new tools and workflows, working independently when required, and collaborating with the rest of the team to solve problems and deliver projects. Candidates with experience in the video game industry who are looking to apply their skills in a stable environment while continuing to tackle interesting technical challenges are encouraged to apply.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience using Blender, 3ds Max, Maya, or similar 3D content creation tools
- Diploma, certificate, or equivalent experience in Game Art, Animation, Technical Art, 3D Modelling, or a related discipline
- Experience optimizing 3D models for real-time applications, including geometry reduction, efficient UV layouts, texture optimization, normal map workflows, and LOD creation
- Strong UV unwrapping skills and an understanding of efficient texture usage
- Experience creating PBR and tiling textures
- Familiarity with Unity scene setup and light mapping workflows
- Experience with Photoshop or similar image editing tools
- Comfortable analyzing reference material and technical data to understand how equipment and assemblies are constructed
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn new tools, workflows, and subject matter
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with Pixyz or similar CAD conversion workflows
- Experience working with CAD-derived mesh data and preparing models for real-time applications
- Experience with Substance Painter
- Mechanical aptitude or experience working with industrial, aerospace, defence, automotive, marine, or manufacturing products
- Experience with virtual reality applications
Responsibilities
- Create, optimize, and maintain 3D assets for real-time training and visualization applications
- Work with CAD-derived mesh data and other source assets to create optimized content for real-time environments
- Create UVs, materials, textures, and supporting assets
- Build and maintain optimized 3D scenes and environments
- Collaborate with developers, designers, and subject matter experts to accurately represent complex equipment and systems
- Assist with quality assurance and content validation activities as required
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of content creation workflows and best practices
- Other duties as required
Other MANDATORY Requirements: Candidates must currently possess or have the ability to obtain at minimum Canadian Reliability Clearance.
Due to the nature of our work, all work is done in Halifax and this is not a remote role.
Compensation: Compensation is negotiated based on the level of knowledge and experience and includes a health/dental benefits plan and flexible work hours.
