We are currently seeking motivated 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Year Apprentice Power Line Technicians to join our team based out of Grande Prairie, Alberta, working on projects throughout the province.
This is an opportunity to work alongside experienced Journeyman Power Line Technicians and Foremen while gaining valuable experience in the construction, maintenance, inspection, and restoration of critical utility infrastructure. You'll develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to become a highly successful Journeyman Power Line Technician while building a long-term career with a growing Alberta contractor.

Position Summary
Under the direction of Journeyman Power Line Technicians and Foremen, the Apprentice Power Line Technician assists in the construction, installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of overhead and underground electrical utility systems.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, continuous learning, teamwork, and quality workmanship while progressing through Alberta's apprenticeship program.
Key ResponsibilitiesConstruction & Maintenance
- Assist in the construction, maintenance, inspection, and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
- Assist with pole line construction, framing, conductor installation, transformer installations, equipment replacements, and system upgrades.
- Install and maintain conductors, insulators, transformers, switches, lightning arrestors, street lighting systems, and associated utility equipment.
- Assist with underground cable installations, cable pulling, terminations, and related civil utility work.
- Assist with conductor splicing, grounding, bonding, and protection procedures.
- Participate in transmission construction and maintenance activities as required.
- Assist with emergency power restoration and outage response activities.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, line trucks, bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other utility construction equipment as authorized.
- Assist with the erection and maintenance of steel, wood, and concrete poles, towers, anchors, and guying systems.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain the highest standards of personal and crew safety.
- Participate in daily tailboard meetings, hazard assessments, and job planning activities.
- Follow all company, client, and regulatory safety requirements.
- Identify hazards and actively participate in risk mitigation efforts.
- Maintain professional housekeeping standards on all worksites.
- Properly complete required safety documentation and reporting requirements.
Learning & Development
- Progress through Alberta's Apprenticeship and Industry Training Program.
- Develop competency in utility construction methods, standards, and best practices.
- Learn switching, grounding, protection, and safe work procedures.
- Develop the ability to read and interpret construction drawings, utility standards, work packages, permits, and locates.
- Learn project planning, crew coordination, and jobsite leadership fundamentals.
- Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and improve trade competency through hands-on experience and mentorship.

Qualifications Required
- Registered 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Year Apprentice Power Line Technician.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Ability and willingness to obtain a Class 3 Driver's Licence with Air Brake Endorsement.
- Strong commitment to safety and safe work practices.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including climbing, lifting, pulling cable, and working at heights.
- Ability to distinguish colours for electrical identification purposes.
- Willingness to travel and work throughout Alberta as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Class 1 or Class 3 Driver's Licence with Air Brake Endorsement.
- Previous utility construction, electrical, telecommunications, or related trade experience.
- Ground Disturbance Level II.
- Standard First Aid/CPR.
- CSTS 2020.
- H2S Alive.
- Experience operating utility construction equipment.
- Experience reading construction drawings and utility specifications.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills.
