Olsonfab Metal Fabrication is seeking a Plate/Structural Steel Estimator to join our growing team, offering competitive pay, opportunities for professional development, and a supportive work environment.
Projects you may estimate include, but are not limited to:
- Heavy plate (vessels, silos, cyclones, complex fittings, etc.)
- Structural (structural steel buildings, mezzanines, pipe structures, etc.)
- Misc. steel (stacks, stairs, railings, catwalks, access platforms, etc.)
- Tanks (subbase fuel tanks, day tanks, storage tanks, etc.)
Duties:
- Develop precise cost estimates for projects, considering materials, labour, equipment and overhead
- Prepare competitive bids and proposals tailored to client specifications and industry standards
- Review blueprints, specifications and other project documents to determine scope and requirements.
- Identify potential challenges, materials needs, and cost-saving opportunities
- Collaborate with supplies and vendors to obtain material and service pricing
- Maintain open communication with clients to clarify project details and expectations
- Create and maintain detailed records of estimates, quotes and project costs
- Provide reports and insights to support management in decision making processes
- Stay up to date with industry standards, market trends, and fabrication technologies to ensure accurate and competitive estimates.
Qualifications:
- Post Secondary Education Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred
- 3 years experience in estimating for plate/structural fabrication or similar manufacturing environments
- Strong proficiency in estimating software
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills
- Proficient in Office 365 (Strong excel skills are an asset)
- In-depth knowledge of fabrication process, materials and industry standards
- Practical background in welding/fabrication an asset
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to conduct on-site facility assessments, diagnose client operational needs, and propose custom metal fabrication solutions.
