About the Role
We're a growing online retro video game store and consumer electronics business specializing in sourcing, restoring, and reselling classic gaming hardware. We're hiring a Content Creator (Senior) to tell our story — capturing the hunt for rare finds, the satisfying before-and-afters of restorations, and the gear we love, and turning it into content that grows our audience and drives sales.
This is a creative, hands-on role for someone who lives and breathes short-form video, UGC, and social media, and ideally has real enthusiasm for retro gaming. You'll own our presence across platforms — filming, editing, posting, and engaging — and help shape how our brand looks and sounds.
We're looking for someone with a high-energy, creative, and reliable personality — comfortable on and behind the camera, full of ideas, and consistent about getting content out on a steady schedule.
Examples of content you'll create:
- Short-form video — TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts (hauls, finds, restorations, "before & after," packing).
- Product and brand photography for social, listings, and marketing.
- Behind-the-scenes of sourcing trips, expos, repairs, and day-to-day store life.
- Longer YouTube content and/or live selling streams (e.g., Whatnot), depending on your strengths.
Responsibilities
- Plan, film, and edit engaging short-form video for TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
- Shoot clean, appealing product and lifestyle photos.
- Write captions, hooks, and simple scripts that match our voice and the platform.
- Maintain a consistent posting schedule across our channels.
- Engage with our community — comments, messages, trends, and collabs.
- Track what's working (views, engagement, saves, conversions) and adjust based on the numbers.
- Stay on top of platform trends, sounds, and formats relevant to retro gaming.
- Capture content at expos, swap meets, and during sourcing and restoration work.
- Collaborate on campaigns tied to drops, sales, and new inventory.
Qualifications
- An existing portfolio of short-form video and/or social content you've made — you'll be asked to share it as part of your application.
- Strong video editing skills (CapCut, Premiere, DaVinci, or similar) and a good eye for photos.
- Comfortable and confident being on camera.
- High energy — on camera and in how you approach the work.
- Solid understanding of how TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube actually work.
- Self-directed, creative, and consistent — you ship content reliably.
- Able to follow direction and our brand guidelines, while bringing your own creative spin to the work (with ideas approved by us before they go out).
- A feel for catchy, trending music — and knowing how to integrate the right track to fit the story each piece of content is telling.
- Clear, on-brand writing for captions and hooks.
- Genuine interest in retro gaming and/or electronics is a strong asset.
Equipment You'll Need
- Your own laptop capable of editing video.
- Your own iPhone Pro (iPhone 14 Pro or newer) — or a professional video camera of comparable quality — for filming.
Nice to Have (Not Mandatory)
None of these are required, but they're a plus and help your application stand out:
- A following or proven growth on your own or a brand's account.
- Experience with live selling (Whatnot, TikTok Shop, etc.).
- Knowing how to run Facebook and/or TikTok ads.
- Graphic design basics (thumbnails, simple graphics, Canva/Photoshop).
- Past experience working at or creating content for a video game store.
- Access to a car (useful for sourcing runs and events).
Pay & Perks
- Flexible pay structure — hourly at [$37.5–$50/hr] commensurate with experience, with the possibility of a per-project or per-thousand-views arrangement instead, depending on your situation and what works best for both sides.
- On-the-job training and creative freedom to develop our brand voice.
- Eligible to attend select expo and convention events to capture content.
- Employee discount on our inventory.
- Option to be paid in store credit — take part of your compensation as store credit toward games, consoles, and gear at a preferred rate, if you'd like.
- Lighting, backdrops, and a workspace are provided — you'll film and edit on your own laptop and iPhone Pro (or professional camera), as noted in the requirements above.
- Regular short breaks are encouraged and paid — they help keep your work fresh and high-quality.
- Potential for hybrid / work-from-home flexibility on editing and planning work after an initial period with us.
Accountability & Quality
Consistency and brand fit matter in this role — content needs to go out on schedule and represent us well. We'll set clear expectations on posting cadence and quality, and review performance together using real engagement data. Where output or reliability falls short significantly or repeatedly, you'll be coached, and continued issues may result in removal from the role. We'd much rather help you find your rhythm and grow the channels than part ways, so we treat this as a clear, fair expectation set up front.
Content ownership: All content created in this role — video, photos, raw footage, and related materials — is the property of the company.
Compensation details are finalized based on experience and the scope you take on. We're happy to discuss the role and how it could grow during the interview.
