We have a great opportunity for an Area Supervisor (Warehouse) in our Materials Management with strong supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
As the Area Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising the daily operations of your assigned work location(s). This involves ensuring appropriate materials management practices and principles are in place to protect the TTC’s assets while providing the materials and parts necessary to support ongoing operations. Daily functions include overseeing and managing the labour for the stocking, storing and issuing materials and parts to various TTC locations, divisions or Material Management customers, filing and maintaining records, supervising unionized employees, maintaining data in the ERP system, overseeing stock discrepancies, performing inventory control counts and participating in budget activities for the assigned area.
In addition, you will be responsible for monitoring the performance measures of their assigned location(s) and taking appropriate action for adhering to these; including liaising with the Inventory Planning section, internal and external manufacturing and user representatives to ensure expectations are met and appropriate inventory levels/re-order points are set and maintained; ensuring the security of the stores areas; ensuring the proper operating condition of the store including materials handling equipment; ensuring completion of various monthly reports; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Coordinating the delivery of inventory parts to end user departments with the other Material Management Area Supervisors at the Shipping/Receiving/Distribution work location, and ensuring timely delivery of regular consumption parts and emergency orders. Investigating, reconciling and adjusting stock discrepancies and forecasting future material needs, planning inventory levels and establishing safety stock to ensure that adequate stock levels are maintained
As the incumbent, you may be required to be on call coverage on weekends (available 24/5 minimum). As well, participate in the JHSC (Joint Health & Safety Committee) as instructed by management.

- Completion of post-secondary education (Community College Diploma or University Degree) in a relevant discipline, or the equivalent with progressively responsible experience in job related functions.
- Sound knowledge of materials management and materials handling principles, methods and practices relating to the ordering, receiving, issuing, storing and management of materials
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills along with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to supervise a unionized workforce is required
- Ability to motivate and assess a skilled unionized workforce, and to administer discipline in accordance with the Collective Agreement and TTC policies
- Must become thoroughly conversant with all aspects of the TTC’s Stores operations, including inventory management, purchasing procedures and materials stocked relating to the operation of the assigned work location
- A valid Province of Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence and will be required to use own automobile to travel to various locations
- Availability for on call coverage as required and ability to report to various work locations and shifts intermittently as required
- Previous Supervisory experience would be an asset
- Certification in APICS (American Production & Inventory Control Society and/or CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) would be an asset
- Must have or must acquire knowledge of departmental policies and procedures applicable to the work performed
- Must have or rapidly acquire a thorough knowledge of the ATU, Local 113 Collective Agreement and Maintenance Seniority Regulations and relevant government legislation or regulations
- The incumbent will also be required to complete various courses in effective supervision, and other courses related to the work
