Located in downtown Oshawa, Ontario, the Canadian Automotive Museum (CAM) is dedicated to preserving and sharing Canada’s automotive experience. Since 1963, the museum has collected one of the world’s most significant collections of Canadian cars and automotive literature, which are used to educate and engage the public through exhibitions, programs, and community initiatives.
The Canadian Automotive Museum is seeking a Programs & Outreach Intern to support the delivery of educational programs, community outreach initiatives, and library and archival access projects. The internship will focus on expanding public engagement by delivering in-gallery and off-site programs, supporting seasonal family events, enhancing digital content, and facilitating access to the museum’s library and archival collections. The intern will play a key role in making the museum’s resources accessible to diverse audiences, including students, families, seniors, and community groups.
The intern will coordinate and deliver educational programs, assist with seasonal family activities such as March Break events, and support outreach to schools and community organizations. They will help maintain and promote access to the museum’s library and archival resources through guided sessions, workshops, and visitor support. The intern will also create digital content for social media, newsletters, and the museum website to publicize programs and engage audiences. While some development of program materials may be required, the primary focus of the internship is program delivery, public engagement, and audience development. The intern will also assist with visitor services, special events, and general museum operations as needed.
The ideal candidate is a recent graduate or current student pursuing a diploma or degree in museum studies, history, cultural studies, education, archival studies, library science, or a related field. Strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational ability, and interpersonal skills are essential. The candidate should be comfortable using standard office software and web-based platforms for social media and digital content creation. An interest in Canadian and automotive history is an asset, and basic knowledge of French is considered beneficial.
To be eligible for this internship through the Young Canada Works program, an individual must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada. Non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible. Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid Social Insurance Number, be between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment, and be a college or university graduate, holding a certificate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate. Priority may be given to graduates who have not previously participated in YCW internship programs and who are unemployed or underemployed.
