The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate physical education program for students ranging from 18 months to Grade 6. This role includes designing and implementing engaging lessons that promote physical fitness, skill development, positive social interaction, and a lifelong appreciation for health and physical activity. The teacher will provide a safe and inclusive environment where students can explore movement, build confidence, and develop gross motor skills appropriate to their stage of development.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Plan and deliver physical education lessons that align with the Ontario Curriculum and meet the diverse developmental needs of students from toddler through elementary years.
- Offer a balanced program that includes fundamental movement skills, fitness activities, cooperative games, individual and team sports, and opportunities for imaginative and creative movement.
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate the physical abilities, interests, and needs of students across a wide age span and skill range.
- Promote inclusive participation and encourage sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect.
- Organize and lead school-wide events such as Sports Day, Play Day, sporting events with athletic associations, intramurals, physical activity challenges, and outdoor seasonal games, fostering school spirit and community engagement.
- Establish clear expectations and routines that ensure student safety and maintain a positive, encouraging learning environment.
- Use observation to assess and monitor student progress and communicate regularly with classroom teachers and school leadership, including progress reports and parent teacher conferences.
- Provide updates to families through established school communication channels regarding student participation and general program information.
- Maintain accurate records related to attendance, participation, and assessments.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and school administration to support integrated and cross-curricular learning experiences.
- Support student development by promoting healthy habits, physical literacy, and a positive attitude toward active living.
- Ensure that the gymnasium and equipment are clean, well-organized, and safely maintained.
- Contribute positively to school culture and student life by participating in faculty meetings, school celebrations, and professional development activities.
- Serve as a visible and approachable member of the school community who builds respectful relationships with students, colleagues, and families.

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Teaching qualifications (OTC) or Montessori Diploma (AMI or MACTE)
- Experience in creating an educational environment that enables students to learn, develop and grow to their full potential
- A demonstrated knowledge for teaching physical education to children
- A proven professional approach and work ethic
- Strong communication skills required (oral and written)
- Effective classroom management and organizational skills
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR-C (or willing to obtain before starting)
- Current Vulnerable Screening Police Record Check (or willing to obtain before starting)
