About the Opportunity
We are looking for a motivated, mechanically inclined individual who is interested in building a long-term career as a Machinist.
No previous apprenticeship registration is required. This opportunity is intended for someone who is not currently a registered machinist apprentice, but who has a genuine interest in the trade and is looking for an employer willing to support their development toward becoming an apprentice.
The successful candidate will begin by learning the fundamentals of machining and our manufacturing processes while working alongside experienced machinists. As you demonstrate reliability, mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and continued progress, there may be an opportunity to move into a formal Machinist Apprenticeship.
What You'll Be Doing
Depending on your experience and progress, your responsibilities may include:
- Assisting experienced machinists with day-to-day production activities
- Learning to operate CNC and/or manual machining equipment
- Loading and unloading parts and materials
- Learning proper machine setup and tooling practices
- Reading and understanding engineering drawings and work instructions
- Using measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
- Inspecting parts to ensure they meet dimensional and quality requirements
- Deburring, cleaning, and preparing finished components
- Learning basic troubleshooting and machining techniques
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Following all company safety, quality, and production procedures
- Taking on additional machining responsibilities as your skills develop
What We're Looking For
You do not need to already be a machinist or registered apprentice. We're more interested in finding someone with the right attitude and aptitude to learn the trade.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A genuine interest in becoming a machinist and pursuing machining as a career
- Strong mechanical aptitude and an interest in how things are made
- Good basic math skills
- Strong attention to detail
- A willingness to learn and accept coaching and feedback
- Good attendance, punctuality, and reliability
- The ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A willingness to learn new machines, processes, and technologies
- Reliable transportation
Previous manufacturing, machine shop, CNC, mechanical, automotive, fabrication, or related experience is an asset, but not required.
Education in machining, manufacturing, mechanical techniques, or a related program is also considered an asset.
Path to Apprenticeship
This position is designed to provide the right candidate with an opportunity to work toward becoming a Machinist Apprentice.
We recognize that becoming a skilled machinist takes time, training, and hands-on experience. Our goal is to provide an environment where a motivated employee can learn from experienced tradespeople, develop practical machining skills, and demonstrate their readiness to enter a formal apprenticeship.
Registration as an apprentice is not guaranteed upon hire. Consideration for apprenticeship sponsorship will be based on factors such as job performance, attendance, attitude, demonstrated mechanical aptitude, skill development, business requirements, and successful completion of an introductory training period.
What We Offer
- Full-time employment in a manufacturing environment
- Hands-on training and mentoring from experienced machinists
- Exposure to CNC machining, tooling, inspection, and manufacturing processes
- Opportunities to develop valuable skilled-trade experience
- A potential pathway toward a formal Machinist Apprenticeship
- Opportunities for increased responsibility as your skills develop
- Competitive compensation based on experience
