PEI School Food Program Inc. is a not-for-profit organization responsible for developing and delivering school lunch programs in Public Schools Branch (PSB) and Commission scolaire de langue française (CSLF) schools across Prince Edward Island. Our mission is to cultivate a healthy and inclusive food culture in Island schools. The program provides equitable access to families through a “pay-what-you-can” (PWYC) payment model.
Position Summary
The Food Services Coordinator will work within a professional and fast-paced environment based out of the PEI School Food Program office in Stratford, PE, with regular travel to schools and food service hubs across Prince Edward Island as required. This role will support a combination of operational, administrative, and organizational responsibilities. This includes supporting school food hub operations, staff onboarding and training, quality assurance activities, procurement coordination, student engagement initiatives, menu and recipe development, equipment and fleet coordination, and continuous program improvement initiatives. They will work closely with Food Service Managers and school food hub kitchen teams to support the successful delivery and growth of the school food program across the province.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide staff coverage and support for Kitchen Managers and school food hub teams as required
- Facilitate repair and maintenance coordination for school food hub equipment
- Coordinate repair, servicing, and transportation for organizational delivery vehicles
- Support Food Service Managers with day-to-day operational duties as required including but not limited to: Quality assurance activities i.e.: meal checks, waste audits, school visits; Onboarding, orientation, and training of new school food hub staff; Setup and launch of new school food hubs; Day-to-day hub food service operations i.e.: meal delivery coordination as needed; Providing support for Grab N’ Go cafeteria programs, recipe testing, recipe standardization, and menu development and procurement of food, supplies, and equipment; Ensure compliance with health, hygiene, sanitation, and School Food Environment Guidelines

- Travel across Prince Edward Island as required
- Attend meetings and contribute to organizational planning and program improvement initiatives
- Other various duties as assigned
Education Requirements
- Post-secondary education in a culinary arts program and/or Red Seal certification is required
- Valid Basic or Advanced Food Safety Certification is required
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a leadership or supervisory role within the food service industry
- Minimum 3 years’ experience preparing large quantities of food from scratch (ie: banquet, catering, centralized kitchens, institutional food service, etc.)
- Experience and/or training in human resource management including scheduling, onboarding, training, and performance management
- Experience working in an institutional food service environment considered an asset
- Project and/or program management experience considered an asset
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of cost-effective menu preparation, pricing, purchasing, inventory management, and record keeping
- Understanding and experience with food service budgeting and financial management
- Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent conflict resolution and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Exceptional organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to independently identify and resolve operational and performance issues in a fast-paced environment
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and school communities
- Ability and willingness to be flexible in supporting daily operations, including adjusting tasks, locations, and schedules as needed
- Enthusiastic, adaptable, and motivated team player
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required
- Strong attention to detail
This position supports both office-based and on-site operational work, including staff coverage and training, quality assurance activities, program support, and coordination of food service operations. Hybrid work flexibility may be available when appropriate and operationally feasible; however, the nature of the role may require a significant in-person presence at schools and food service locations throughout the province. Attendance and participation in meetings, training sessions, etc. is expected.
This is a full-time permanent position. The typical work week for this position is 37.5 hours. While overtime is not expected, occasional overtime and flexible hours may be required to support operational needs.
The PEI School Food Program offers a competitive salary of $57,681 annually, paid vacation and sick time, and an attractive benefits package (including health and dental, and wellness spending fund).
