Duties
Bi-Weekly Hours: Days, Evenings, Nights, and Weekends/ 4 and 12 hour shifts. Casual employees are called on short notice to relieve staff that are on leave and unavailable to work. The number of shifts may vary depending on the worksite. The work for this position will be on-call basis only.

The 4th (A) Class Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the power plant, steam distribution system, and other related mechanical systems. The incumbent is required to perform a number of regular inspection maintenance functions and monitor all systems closely in compliance with standards determined by the PEI Department of Labour.
Duties will include:
- assisting with testing, maintaining, and repairing the power generator;
- monitoring and changing primary and secondary medical gas tanks as required by checking bulk oxygen pressures, ordering medical gases, monitoring for leaks and responding to alarms;
- replacing and maintaining the pneumatic valves, air dampers, wing coils, thermostats, and control panels to insure the most efficient operation of all HVAC systems;
- participating in building fire alarms drills;
- maintaining shift records in a log-book by recording information such as results of tests conducted on shift, plant operation readings, and repairs performed;
- inspecting and lubricating pump, fan, and compressor motors, maintaining belt tensions as required, and draining condensation from compressors;
- conducting feed water, boiler water, and condensate water tests;
- cleaning and maintaining various types of equipment including air handling equipment, fuel oil systems, air compressor systems, pumps, piping, heat exchangers, pressure vessels and heat delivery systems as required;
- monitoring all external contractors for plant related repairs; and performing other duties as required.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Success completion of Grade 12.
- Possess a valid 4th Class Power Engineer License as issued and recognized by the Board of Examiners in accordance with the Power Engineers Act.
- Two (2) years experience performing work related to one or more of the maintenance trades.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision.
- Capable of sustained physical activity.
- Have a good previous work and attendance record.
