Position Overview
The Assistant Maintenance Manager ensures high-quality maintenance work for guest satisfaction and safety. This role involves supervising, directing, and mentoring the Maintenance team to achieve optimum performance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow and implement maintenance programs for hotel buildings, equipment, and vehicles.
- Assign and oversee daily tasks, routine work, and repair orders.
- Assist with project completion, ensuring adherence to deadlines.
- Maintain equipment in proper working condition and comply with licensing requirements.
- Conduct regular checks of boilers, hot tubs, generators, analyzing and addressing issues.
- Perform hands-on maintenance tasks alongside the team.
- Assist with snow removal and material transport as needed.
- Oversee Occupational Health & Safety and WHMIS compliance for the team.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Maintenance Building and related areas.
- Monitor and control costs for labor, materials, and equipment.
- Assist in hiring, scheduling, training, and disciplining Maintenance staff.
- Prepare staff schedules, ensuring fair allocation and staff retention.
- Participate in staff meetings and maintain ongoing communication with the Maintenance Manager and General Manager.
- Ensure staff training in emergency procedures and power outages.
- Facilitate communication with all departments for cohesive teamwork.
- Participate in cost-saving initiatives and complete administrative paperwork.
- Adhere to grooming and dress code.
- Assist other departments as required.
Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification (electrical/plumbing/carpentry/HVAC) or power engineering certification (4th or 5th class), or two years of maintenance experience.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to be a hands-on manager with a significant focus on operational tasks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in hospitality, with a focus on customer service is an asset.
- Organized and detail-oriented, capable of multitasking and handling high-pressure situations.
- Physical capability for tasks involving standing, bending, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and climbing ladders.
