Role Overview
We are seeking a Videographer/editor to join our fast-growing media team. This is a role designed for an experienced editor who can operate with high autonomy and help us scale our content output seamlessly. Also, someone who is comfortable shooting and lighting interviews, podcasts, direct to camera talking head and original narrative content.
In this role, you will bring fresh creative energy to our broad portfolio of motivational video channels. As a videographer, you will ideate and own the responsibility for original lighting and sound design for podcast recordings and interviews with high value, global profile stakeholders. As an in-house editor, you will independently produce and execute our proven content editing formulas to develop and own the workflow of a Motiversity channel.
Core Responsibilities
I. Content Creation & Video Editing (70%)
- Long-Form Production: Edit two 10+ minute videos per week, taking full ownership of pacing, tone, and visual storytelling to align with the Motiversity brand.
- Curation & Storytelling: Autonomously review full-length interviews and talks to identify and extract the most inspiring, informative, and eye-opening moments.
- Content Repurposing: Efficiently re-edit completed videos from our broader channel network to create fresh, engaging alternative versions.
- Audio Production: Mix music, speeches, and sound effects using cinematic production techniques to independently create high-fidelity, movie trailer–style audios for distribution across our YouTube channels and podcast platforms.
- Visual Polish: Elevate the viewing experience of videos using creative text, titles, kinetic typography, and basic graphics.
- Creative Problem Solving: Drive creative solutions and remove production roadblocks independently using strategic thinking, competitor research, AI tools, and general knowledge. You should be comfortable taking full initiative to solve ambiguous or complex problems without needing direct supervision.
II. Videography (20%)
- Production Set Up: Using Motiversity’s equipment and studio, set up and take down cameras, lighting, teleprompter, and audio recording.
- Lighting: Indoor / outdoor lighting speciality
- Audio: Experience with multi-source audio development. Indoor studio/outdoor problem solving and subject matter expertise.
- Recording: Manage equipment on shoots and provide feedback on subject delivery.
- File Delivery: Organize and transfer large 4K files from cameras to Google Drive and to appropriate editors.
- Studio Consultation: Provide feedback on equipment and consult with team for studio changes or equipment purchases.
III. Platform Optimization, Market Research & Growth (10%)
- Social Media Formatting: Independently format and re-edit successful YouTube content into optimized versions for our social media channels (including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X/Twitter).
- Trend Analysis: Continually analyze partner and industry videos to identify what formats, topics, and styles are currently working, bringing actionable insights back to the team.
- Collaborative Strategy: Contribute proactively to team brainstorming and production sessions to help refine content strategies and concepts.
- Skills Advancement: Proactively sharpen your technical abilities, stay current on digital media trends, and continuously optimize your production workflows.
IV. Asset Management & Operations (5%)
- Digital File Organization: Maintain complete organization of all raw footage, projects, music tracks, and final renders within our file management systems.
- Deadlines & Balance: Efficiently manage your own workload to consistently hit tight production deadlines, balancing high creative standards with the volume demands of daily digital media production.
- Assigned Duties: Complete additional related media production, team, and coordination tasks as assigned by the leadership team.
V. Qualifications & Requirements
- Required Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience editing with Adobe Premiere Pro (Preferred), Davinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro, with a demonstrated ability to work independently. Direct YouTube experience is considered an asset.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in video production, demonstrating a competent ability to lead productions, light scenes and operate camera equipment.
- Audio Production: Minimum of 1 year mixing audio or in audio production (mixing/mastering music, vocal production, audio engineering, or sound design). Must have a proven ability to match music pacing and swells with speeches and footage to evoke deep emotional responses.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with Google Drive, Google Docs, and Microsoft Excel for project tracking and self-directed organization.
- Experience with Sony cameras is a plus.
- Viral Intuition: Strong understanding of what drives audience retention, engagement, and virality online.
- Personal Alignment: Passionate about self-development, entrepreneurship, thought leadership, and life-improvement content.
- Content Alignment: Open to working with and editing videos about Self-Development/life-improvement motivational content
- Work Environment:
- Ability to work remotely using your own high-powered personal laptop or computer capable of handling heavy video editing workflows.
- Ability to work from our Edmonton office on your personal device when required for team collaboration.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Band: $26.00 – $31.00 per hour (commensurate with experience).
