Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm. This is a temporary summer position from July 2, 2026 - September 2, 2026 with the potential for casual work following.
Pay:
Starting wage is $25.00.
Position Summary:
Support the safe maintenance and repair of the building including independent suites, common and staff areas, parkade and grounds. These responsibilities including but not limited to painting, general electrical and plumbing, basic carpentry, grounds clean up, carpet cleaning, building and equipment repairs. This position requires compliance with health and safety regulations at all times to ensure the safety of all building occupants. Assists Maintenance Manager with all aspects of suite rejuvenation and general maintenance as assigned. This position may be assigned in areas of housekeeping, laundry, and emergency response. Carries out duties in an efficient, friendly, and courteous manner, and demonstrates a respectful and caring approach to Berwick residents and staff.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Hands on and collaborative with mechanically inclined abilities.
- Experience in the field of maintenance and general repairs
- High School completion or equivalent
- Valid Standard First Aid Certificate
- WHMIS Certification;
- Emergency response training in the handling of emergency situations such as power outages, fire, earthquake and medical emergencies
- Related experience in the housekeeping field with preference given to those with 1-2 years of experience in the hospitality industry
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs, bend, and perform repetitive movements
Competencies/Skills:
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, meet deadlines
- Calm, quick and competent in emergency response situations;
- Good planning, coordinating, and organization skills;
- Team player, completes assigned tasks and helps others;
- Excellent communication skills; comfortable speaking to groups; ability to perform as a trainer to groups of staff in critical building systems and safety procedures
- Good judgment, patient and respectful to others;
- Friendly and professional demeanour
- Flexible and adaptable
Note: At Berwick we understand the importance of immunization to protect our residents, team members and visitors from COVID-19. As such, a prerequisite of employment is that all new hires are vaccinated as approved by Health Canada. A current TB test and criminal record check are also required pursuant to the Criminal Records Review Act for working with vulnerable adults.
