Youth Academy is looking for enthusiastic individuals to lead a camp in Fine Art and Mixed Media! The day camp leader is responsible for the supervision, safety and well being of youth ages 7-10 while providing an inclusive, fun, and positive summer learning experience. The camp leader must design and lead engaging, hands-on art experiences while nurturing creativity, building confidence, and encouraging exploration through a variety of accessible and fun art practices. Paid orientation is provided and preparation time is included. You will have a paid 30 minute lunch break.
Responsibilities
- Plans and leads age-appropriate activities for youth balancing skill-building with creative exploration.
- Identifies supplies needed to facilitate scheduled activities for the week.
- Interacts with youth in an enthusiastic approachable manner.
- Actively promotes diversity, inclusion, and equity in the camp environment
- Effectively leads camp assistant and/or volunteer, and appropriately delegates tasks and responsibilities
- Responsible for relaying participant or parental concerns to CE Program Officer
- Responds accordingly to conflict and emergency scenarios
- Assists with administrative tasks related to the management of camp rosters
- Provides excellent communication to youth and their supporting adults.
- Plans curriculum to result in a final Art Show on Friday where the parents are invited.
- A collaborative project is built to be assembled and revealed at Friday’s Art Show as well as individual project portfolios. Students build their own portfolio to take home on Friday
- Camper participant level 7-10 years of age.
- Collaborates with Camp Assistant and Designated Supervisor to support campers learning needs
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- identify and develop appropriate educational curriculum for youth ages 7-13
- Effective communication, conflict resolution, problem solving abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Proven leadership capabilities
- Commitment to maintaining a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, and cultural awareness/sensitivity
- Current Standard or Emergency First Aid with CPR-C certificate
- Familiarity with mixed-media and process-based art approaches.
Preferred Education & Experience
- Background in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Art Education, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experienced in facilitating lessons, games, and camp related activities for youth
- Previous experience working with youth in a paid or volunteer role.
- Friendly, patient, and enthusiastic approach to teaching and supervision.
Required:
- A clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector check
- Canadian citizenship
