UAV Assembly, Maintenance, Test, and Repair Technician
POSITION SUMMARY
The UAV Technician is responsible for the assembly, inspection, testing, maintenance, repair, and airworthiness of the unmanned aerial vehicles produced by Forward Robotics Inc. The successful candidate will ensure UAVs are maintained to the highest standards of safety and reliability in compliance with Transport Canada regulations and manufacturer specifications. This role is critical to the safe and efficient execution of all UAV flight operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Carry out routine and preventive maintenance on airframes, propulsion systems, batteries, payloads, etc.
· Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, electronic, and structural faults using systematic diagnostic techniques
· Inspect, repair, and replace worn or damaged components
· Perform firmware updates and software configuration on drones and ground control systems
· Conduct tests and functional checks following maintenance or repair
· Assess repaired UAV to determine return-to-service eligibility and document findings accordingly
· Maintain accurate and complete maintenance logs, inspection records, and repair reports
· Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes following incidents or equipment failures
· Assemble UAV platforms in accordance with work instructions and specifications
· Perform post-assembly and post-repair functional checks
· Document all assembly steps, repair actions, test results, and anomalies in the UAV build and maintenance records
· Conduct bench testing and ground testing prior to first flight of newly assembled or repaired aircraft
· Practice and enforce FOD (Foreign Object Debris/Damage) prevention procedures in all maintenance and assembly areas
· Identify and resolve assembly defects, tolerance issues, or component incompatibilities
· Support integration and testing of payloads and mission-specific equipment
· Collaborate with pilots and engineers to ensure aircraft readiness for scheduled operations
· Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians and operations staff
· Support the development and review of maintenance procedures, SOPs, and checklists
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
· Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience maintaining, repairing, and assembling UAVs or other high-reliability and complexity products, i.e. industrial or medical robotics
· Proven ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and structural components
· Solid understanding of UAV electrical systems and battery management
· Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and mechanical aptitude
· Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and maintenance bulletins
· Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to documentation accuracy
· Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field sites as required
Preferred / Assets
· Education in mechanical engineering technology, electronics or related field
· Experience with payload sensors
· Soldering and PCB-level repair skills
· Familiarity with acceptance testing procedures
· First Aid certification
