What is the role?
Carmacks is seeking a dedicated professional with a strong commitment to quality excellence and environmental stewardship. As the Quality & Environment Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting and maintain our ISO 001 Quality Management System (QMS) certification and Environmental Management System (EMS), ensuring ongoing compliance, continuous improvement, and alignment with ISO 9001 requirements and ISO 14001 principles.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Internal Audits: Plan, coordinate and conduct internal audits of QMS and EMS.
- External Audits: Plan and coordinate annual QMS and EMS audits and work with auditors in advance of, during and following the audits.
- Non-Conformance (NCs) or Opportunity for Improvement (OFIs): Log and track Non‑Conformances (NCs) and Opportunities for Improvement (OFIs) identified through internal and external audits, stakeholder complaints, or employee observations. In collaboration with management, support the development of corrective actions, monitor progress, and regularly follow up to ensure actions are completed effectively and within established timelines.
- Document Control: Control, maintain and update documents and record management systems to ensure accessibility, accurate version control, and compliance with ISO requirements.
- QEMS Statistics: Develop and maintain quality and environmental statistics (e.g., non-conformances, opportunities for improvement, client satisfaction survey results, recycling performance, Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG), etc. and present them to management for decision-making.
- Annual QEMS Review Meetings: Schedule annual QMS and EMS Review Meeting(s) including documentation and data for the meeting and subsequent follow up actions after the meeting.
- Groundwater Monitoring: Schedule Spring & Fall Groundwater sampling. Review resulting reports and where required, communicate with consultant. Submission of final reports.
- Salt Usage and Practices Documentation: Coordination, review with Management, and submission of the annual TEC Salt Usage and Practices documentation.
- Salt Management Plan: Initiate the annual review of the Salt Management Plan by management and supervisory staff and finalize report based on feedback received.
- Quality Management Plan: Update the Quality Management Plan and coordinate review by management. Submit finalized report.
- Quarterly Quality Report: Collect, compile and review data for the Quarterly Quality Report. Follow up with supervisory staff and procurement on data required for report. Coordinate a meeting with management to review draft report. Finalize report based on review and submit report.
- Environmental Management Plan: Update the Environmental Management Plan and circulate for management to review. Submit report.
- Client Satisfaction Survey: Facilitate the client satisfaction survey process.
- Environmental Legal Requirements: Identify applicable legal and regulatory requirements related to the environment and coordinate compliance evaluations.
- QEMS Awareness Review: Plan and deliver employee onboarding and training sessions on QEMS and annual Environment Day.
- Lead or participate in site inspections, aspect and impact assessments, operational control reviews, and emergency preparedness exercises.
- Develop, implement, and continually improve the company’s quality, environmental, ensuring compliance with international standards.
What do we value?
- 2 years’ experience in a similar role involving ISO 9001 and/or 14001
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Lead auditor training is considered an asset. The auditor must be certified by an accredited auditors' registration body such as the International Register of Certificated Auditors ("IRCA"), Registrar Accreditation Board ("RAB"), National Quality Institute ("NQI"), or other equivalent.
- Experience in construction, infrastructure, or manufacturing industries
- Experience conducting internal audits and managing compliance programs.
- ISO 9001 and/or 14001 internal Auditor training
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Strong skills in writing and making presentations
- Strong skills in data analysis
- Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
- Detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills
- A valid driver’s license and ability to visit different company sites.
