Job Overview
The Personal Property Registries (PPR) Administrator at Essex will be responsible for managing and administering Personal Property Registry (PPR) activities related to equipment finance transactions across Alberta and other Canadian jurisdictions. The Administrator will ensure accurate registration, amendment, renewal, discharge, and ongoing maintenance of security interests to protect the company's collateral position and mitigate risk.
The successful candidate will serve as the organization's subject matter expert on the Alberta Personal Property Security Act (PPSA), registration requirements, and lien perfection processes associated with equipment leasing and secured lending transactions.
Individual Key Contributions/Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review, and register financing statements and security interests in the Alberta Personal Property Registry and other provincial jurisdictions.
- Ensure all registrations are completed accurately and within required timelines to perfect security interests.
- Process amendments, renewals, continuations, assignments, and discharges of registrations.
- Maintain registration records and ensure ongoing compliance with legislation and internal policies.
- Monitor registration expiry dates and proactively manage renewals.
Due Diligence & Searches
- Conduct PPR searches and related due diligence on borrowers, sellers, and equipment assets.
- Review search results to identify existing liens, encumbrances, judgments, or competing security interests.
- Assist the Documentation team in preparing and obtaining waivers, postponements, and consent agreements from existing lienholders and GSA holders to support equipment finance transactions and ensure the company's security position is adequately protected.
Qualifications
Knowledge & Skills
- Extensive knowledge of the Alberta Personal Property Security Act (PPSA).
- Strong understanding of secured transactions, collateral perfection, and lien priority principles.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and lending/lease management systems.
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience working with Personal Property Registries, PPSA registrations, secured lending, equipment finance, leasing, or legal documentation.
- Demonstrated experience with Alberta Personal Property Registry systems.
- Experience with multi-jurisdictional PPSA registrations across Canada is an asset.
- Experience within equipment finance, commercial lending, leasing, or financial services preferred.
Education
- Diploma or degree in Business Administration, Finance, Legal Studies, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Alberta PPR certification completion required.
