Job Title: Machine Operator
Job Description
This role focuses on operating modern metal-forming equipment in a metal production facility to create components for welding and assembly. You will work with punches, shears, and brakes to form sheet metal parts in production runs of 50 to 300 pieces, handling material that typically weighs 15 to 20 pounds. You will perform quality checks on finished products, maintain the machines, and complete basic documentation to support production and quality processes. The position also involves supporting additional tasks as needed to keep operations running smoothly.
Responsibilities

Operate metal-forming machinery such as punches, shears, and press brakes to produce sheet metal components for welding and assembly departments.

Set up and adjust machines for production runs ranging from approximately 50 to 300 pieces, ensuring consistent output and adherence to specifications.

Handle sheet metal materials weighing roughly 15 to 20 pounds on a consistent basis while following safe material-handling practices.

Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to understand dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication requirements for each job.

Perform in-process and final quality checks on outgoing products to verify accuracy, fit, and finish against specifications.

Maintain machines by performing basic preventive maintenance, monitoring equipment condition, and reporting any issues promptly.

Use hand and power tools to support metal fabrication, assembly, and general production tasks as required.

Assist with sheet metal fabrication and assembly work, including work on enclosures and other metal products.

Operate a sit-down forklift to move materials, components, and finished products safely around the facility when required.

Complete basic documentation related to production, quality checks, and machine operation to support traceability and continuous improvement.

Follow established safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment at all times.

Support additional tasks and projects on an as-needed basis to meet production demands and team objectives.
Essential Skills

Minimum 2 years of experience operating metal-forming machinery such as press brakes, shears, and punches.

Demonstrated experience with press brake, shear, punch, and general machine operation in a manufacturing environment.

Manufacturing experience with exposure to sheet metal production or fabrication.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.

Experience with quality control in a production or sheet metal environment.

Hands-on experience with sheet metal and sheet metal fabrication processes.

Experience with assembly and general production tasks in a manufacturing setting.

Proficiency using hand and power tools safely and effectively.

Experience operating a sit-down forklift.

Basic software skills to support documentation and production-related tasks.

Experience working with enclosures or similar fabricated metal products.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Familiarity with electrical or mechanical enclosures in a manufacturing context.

Willingness to train on day shift for 4 to 8 weeks before moving to an afternoon shift if required.

Work Environment
This position is based in a brand-new, well-lit, clean, and organized facility located off 80th Avenue in the southeast area. The operation focuses on manufacturing electrical solutions across multiple sectors, using modern, larger-than-traditional metal-forming machinery. The standard shift is 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with a half-hour unpaid lunch and overtime paid after 40 hours per week. You must be open to working an afternoon shift from Monday to Thursday, 2:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., which includes a shift premium, and you will typically receive 4 to 8 weeks of training on days before transitioning. The environment requires consistent use of personal protective equipment, including CSA-approved safety boots (green triangle), a welding mask, safety glasses, and gloves; you may bring your own welding hand tools if preferred. The facility combines modern equipment, structured shifts, and clear safety standards to provide a professional and efficient manufacturing workplace.
