Job Overview
Are you a sharp, high-volume accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment? We operate 27 thriving franchise locations across Alberta—and we are actively growing. We are seeking a full-time, Calgary-based Franchise Bookkeeper to oversee our entire multi-entity financial ecosystem.
Reporting directly to the Owner, you will manage inter-company transactions, ensure precise royalty compliance, and streamline financial workflows across all 27 business units. Because a major portion of our revenue flows through third-party marketplaces (DoorDash, Uber Eats, and SkipTheDishes), the ideal candidate must have advanced experience navigating complex, high-volume delivery platform reconciliations.
Key ResponsibilitiesHigh-Volume Multi-Unit Accounting
- Oversee daily financial transactions, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and point-of-sale (POS) cash reconciliations for all 27 locations.
- Maintain impeccable general ledgers using complex class tracking to ensure each location's data is distinct yet consolidated.
- Manage corporate cash flow, bank reconciliations, and credit card matching across multiple business accounts.
Third-Party Delivery Revenue Management
- Perform exhaustive weekly transaction-level matching for DoorDash, Uber Eats, and SkipTheDishes to tie out platform deposits against POS sales data.
- Ensure revenue is recognized gross vs. net correctly—properly recording full menu-price sales as revenue, while separating third-party commissions, delivery fees, and customer adjustments into distinct expense categories.
- Track and isolate customer refunds, cancellations, and hidden marketing/promotional costs deducted by delivery apps to protect overall profit margins.
Franchise & Compliance (Alberta Registry & Franchisor)
- Accurately calculate, track, and submit weekly/monthly franchise royalty fees and advertising fund contributions based on precise gross sales numbers.
- Prepare and file all provincial compliance requirements, including accurate Alberta GST returns and payroll source deductions.
- Address complex sales tax tracking rules related to Marketplace Facilitator Taxes (MFT) where delivery platforms remit taxes on behalf of specific locations.
- Prepare clean, audit-ready year-end binders for our external CPA.
Reporting & Business Growth Insights
- Deliver monthly Profit & Loss (P&L) statements, Balance Sheets, and cash flow reports for individual units and consolidated parent entities.
- Monitor major cost centers—specifically labor percentages, cost of goods sold (COGS), and delivery channel fees—and flag variances to the Owner.
- Help build scalable workflows to seamlessly onboard new locations as we continue to expand.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 4+ years of full-charge bookkeeping or corporate accounting experience. Prior experience managing 10+ multi-unit franchise, restaurant, or retail locations is highly preferred.
- Delivery Platform Proficiency: Direct experience reconciling high-volume payouts from third-party aggregators (DoorDash, Uber Eats, SkipTheDishes).
- Software Expertise: Advanced proficiency in cloud platforms like QuickBooks Online Plus or Sage 50 Premium. Expert-level MS Excel skills (pivot tables, complex formulas, data manipulation) are mandatory.
- Local Knowledge: Solid working knowledge of Canadian/Alberta payroll rules, GST filings, and provincial employment standards.
This position is integral to maintaining the financial integrity of our franchise operations. We value candidates who are proactive, precise, and committed to excellence in financial management.
