This role provides targeted academic support for Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) students, with a primary focus in the Student Support Centre (SSC). The Learning Assistant helps students strengthen their understanding of course material, close learning gaps, and build confidence through individualized and small-group support. The role promotes independent learning while collaborating with instructors to support student success.
Key Accountabilities (key duties & desired outcomes):

Provide individualized and small-group academic support to ELCC students to help them understand course concepts and expectations

Assist students in catching up on missed content and strengthening skills in areas where they are experiencing difficulty

Guide students through assignments, projects, and study strategies while promoting independence and confidence

Support students with navigating Moodle, including accessing courses, progressing through modules, and completing submissions

Provide guidance on using SCORM-based learning materials within the LMS environment

Reinforce and review course material using clear, adaptable explanations tailored to different learning styles

Monitor student progress and identify ongoing learning challenges, communicating concerns to instructors as needed

Help students break down complex concepts into manageable steps

Support time management, organization, and study habits specific to ELCC program requirements

Encourage active participation and engagement in learning

Provide consistent, reliable support to students requiring additional assistance to meet program outcomes

Assist with preparing materials or resources that support student learning when required

Support classroom learning on an as-needed basis (e.g., assisting individual students during class time)

Contribute to student success initiatives, SSC activities, and ELCC student services projects

Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student interactions

Early Learning and Child Care certificate (level 2) from a reputable and accredited training institution is required

Qualifications related to adult education preferred
Other Qualifications:

Knowledge of adult learning principles

Familiarity with the Flight Framework preferred

Digital literacy and learning technology skills
Experience & Skills:

Experience in childcare, education, or student support preferred

Experience supporting academic development is an asset

Strong proficiency in navigating Learning Management Systems (LMS), particularly Moodle or similar platforms

Ability to troubleshoot and guide students through online course components and technical issues

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an approachable and supportive style

Ability to work effectively with students of diverse abilities and backgrounds with patience and empathy

Ability to explain concepts clearly and adjust approaches based on student needs
