Face-to-Face Fundraiser / Canvasser - Start This Week
$19/hr to start - $20/hr after initial evaluation + bonuses | 21-35 hours/week | Calgary
Want a job where you're out in the world, meeting people, and doing work that actually matters?
We're hiring Face-to-Face Fundraisers / Canvassers in Calgary to represent leading nonprofit organizations and have meaningful conversations with people in the community.
You'll work on one of our face-to-face fundraising teams - approaching people in busy public spaces or speaking with people at their homes - starting conversations about important causes and inspiring people to get involved by becoming monthly donors.
The causes our teams represent can include disaster relief, support for children and families, animal welfare, human rights, environmental issues, and social justice.
If you're social, energetic, and looking for work that's active, meaningful, and lets you meet people, you might be a great fit.
Fair warning: this is definitely not a desk job. You'll spend most of your shift outside, walking, standing, and talking to people face-to-face - rain or shine. If you'd rather be moving around and meeting people than staring at a computer all day, you'll probably like it here.
One more thing we want to be upfront about:
This is a goal-oriented fundraising job.
You'll speak with lots of people each day, explain the work of the nonprofit you're representing, and ask people to support the cause by becoming monthly donors.
You'll get paid training, ongoing coaching, and plenty of support from your team, but fundraising can be challenging. You'll hear "no" a lot, and not every conversation turns into a donation.
Your performance will be regularly coached and evaluated based on your ability to engage the public and successfully sign up new donors.
If you're resilient, motivated by clear goals, open to feedback, and get satisfaction from improving your results, you'll probably enjoy the challenge.
What you'll do
As a Fundraiser, you'll:
- Represent well-known nonprofit and charitable organizations
- Approach and engage members of the public in face-to-face conversations
- Explain important causes in a clear, engaging, and compelling way
- Inspire people to become monthly donors
- Build rapport with people from all different backgrounds
- Work alongside a supportive, energetic fundraising team
- Develop your communication, confidence, and fundraising skills through paid training and coaching
Depending on the team and campaign, you may work on our street fundraising team, approaching people in busy public areas, or our door-to-door fundraising team, having conversations with people in their neighbourhoods.
Who we're looking for
Come as you are.
We think work is better when you can actually be yourself. Our team includes members of the LGBTQ+ community, and creating a space where people feel safe, respected, supported, and welcome is genuinely important to us.
You don't need fundraising experience - we'll teach you that. We're looking for people who bring personality, energy, resilience, and curiosity, and who are comfortable being coached and working toward measurable goals.
You might be a great fit if you:
- Are naturally social and comfortable starting conversations with strangers
- Are energetic, enthusiastic, and comfortable putting your personality out there
- Can communicate clearly and keep a conversation engaging
- Are motivated by goals and like seeing yourself improve
- Can stay positive and reset after hearing "no"
- Are comfortable receiving regular feedback and coaching
- Enjoy getting people excited about taking action
- Are reliable and can commit to a consistent schedule
- Like being active and would rather be on your feet than behind a desk
- Care about nonprofit, humanitarian, environmental, animal welfare, human rights, or social justice causes
- Want to build your communication, confidence, and leadership skills
You don't need to check every box or come with fundraising experience. If you're someone who likes people, cares about making a difference, can handle hearing "no," and is motivated to improve with coaching, we'd love to hear from you.
This could be a great fit if you're a canvasser, community organizer, student, recent graduate, hospitality or customer service professional, salesperson, retail worker, volunteer, educator, performer, or someone looking to break into the nonprofit world.
Why join our team?
You'll get to:
- Build confidence, communication, and people skills you can use anywhere
- Gain hands-on experience in fundraising, advocacy, donor engagement, and community outreach
- Work alongside an energetic and supportive team
- Take on more responsibility as you develop
- Build experience you can take into nonprofit work, advocacy, sales, communications, or leadership
- Grow your career with a company that promotes from within
If you get good at this, there's room to move up.
All of our leaders started as fundraisers, learned to hit their goals, and developed the skills to coach others to do the same.
As you consistently reach fundraising milestones, there are opportunities to increase your hourly wage and move into supervisor and management roles.
Fundraising can also be a great stepping stone into the nonprofit sector, giving you hands-on experience in advocacy, donor engagement, communication, and community outreach.
