About the Opportunity
Our client is a leading organization within the mining sector, focused on sustainable resource development and operational excellence worldwide. They are currently expanding their cybersecurity team to better safeguard critical assets, operational technology, and enterprise systems across multiple locations. This is a 6-month contract role to start, supporting their global cybersecurity initiatives, primarily focused on security architecture, controls, and enabling best practices. The position offers an excellent opportunity to influence cybersecurity strategy for a growing company with a dedicated leadership team and a culture that values technical expertise and career development. Flexibility includes a hybrid work schedule with three days in the office, with a targeted start in mid-September.
This role is ideal for a senior cybersecurity professional who enjoys hands-on technical work and providing strategic guidance. You will have the chance to implement and refine controls, review vendor solutions, and contribute to establishing a robust security foundation across diverse environments including cloud, operational technology, and enterprise IT.
What You'll Be Doing
- Translate cybersecurity strategies, risk priorities, and standards into practical technical controls, configuration, and operational outcomes.
- Support the implementation, tuning, and validation of security solutions such as Azure security, identity and access management, endpoint protection, and data loss prevention.
- Develop and maintain cybersecurity standards, checklists, and guidance documents to ensure consistent control adoption across IT, OT, and third-party environments.
- Contribute to cybersecurity awareness initiatives through targeted communication, user training, and phishing readiness programs.
- Assist with data loss prevention and information protection efforts by configuring policies, labels, and handling workflows.
- Collaborate with the Cybersecurity Analyst on threat mitigation, control effectiveness validation, and incident response readiness.
- Provide hands-on support during projects, including system configuration reviews, troubleshooting, and operational handovers.
- Review vendor and infrastructure design for security gaps, recommend improvements, and support secure implementation processes.
- Support cybersecurity integration efforts for new systems, monitoring, OT controls, and business resilience initiatives.
What You Bring
- Minimum of 8+ years’ experience in cybersecurity, security engineering, or architecture, with a proven track record of configuration and implementation of controls.
- Hands-on expertise in core security controls, including Microsoft 365, Azure security, IAM, endpoint security, vulnerability management, and cloud security platforms.
- Practical experience working within hybrid environments, including SaaS, on-premise, and OT settings.
- Ability to review technical designs, configure solutions, troubleshoot issues, and validate control effectiveness.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST CSF, CIS Controls, or ISO 27001, and the ability to translate these into operational controls.
- Background in OT security or industrial environments is a strong asset.
- Certifications such as CISSP, CCSK, GIAC, or Microsoft security certificates are highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders.
Compensation
The estimated base pay rate for this position is CAD $80 to CAD $100 per hour as of the posting date. Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and training.
