Location
This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of 1996 Itabashi Way, Burlington ON (Tansley Woods). Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Effective September 2027, this role will be required to be on site 50% of the time each month.
Position Overview
The Community Development Intern supports the Community Development team in planning, coordinating, and evaluating community development initiatives that strengthen neighbourhood connections. This internship provides hands-on experience in municipal community development, community engagement and partnership work, as well as project support related to Recreation, Community and Culture priorities.
Responsibilities
Support community engagement activities (e.g., outreach, event/meeting logistics, note-taking, follow-up and documentation).
Assist with research and environmental scans related to community needs, best practices and emerging trends.
Contribute to the development of communication and engagement materials.
Support data collection, tracking and reporting for projects, including basic analysis and dashboard/summary preparation.
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to coordinate activities and maintain strong working relationships.
Provide general administrative support as required.

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will have
Post-secondary student or recent graduate (within the last 12 months) of Public Administration/ Political Science, Recreation, Communications, Social and Community Development and/or a related field.
Strong organizational and time-management abilities with attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while coordinating with others in a team-based environment, with minimal supervision.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in technology such as Microsoft Office and collaboration tools such as Teams and SharePoint. Experience with GIS an asset.
Analytical skills to interpret data and prepare reports.
Customer-focused, proactive, and eager to learn.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
Experience with community engagement and knowledge of IAP2 continuum is considered an asset.
Reliable and able to handle confidential information with professionalism.
This position may require occasional travel between sites and/or City facilities and must provide own transportation.
