Our Maintenance Engineering Section currently has an Automation and Controls Technician position available. This is a 2-week rotational shift position with expectations for some weekend work as required.

What you will be doing:
To perform and maintain, troubleshoot, and support warehouse automation control systems including AGV, AMR, WCS, PLC, HMI, SCADA, SHUTTLES, VRC, and Robotic systems to ensure optimal warehouse operations and minimize downtime. Support the company business plan targets and department key metrics in the areas of safety, quality, cost, management and environment, as assigned.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) for warehouse automation systems including Altas2D shuttles, Schwingshandl VRC, Geek+, Agilox AMR, IDC AGC, and MOVU tower systems
- Install, repair/maintain electrical/electronic equipment, instrumentation and computerized system (HMI, PC, vision systems & networked I/O) related to warehouse automation
- Troubleshoot equipment downtime through online PLC investigation
- Investigate and recommend PLC/HMI modifications to engineering
- Support PLC and HMI programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron) including fault diagnosis and logic modification
- Evaluate process controls and confirm equipment functions
- Repair and install equipment with servo, robotic and pneumatic technology
- Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, and repairs on automated machinery and control systems using schematics, technical manuals, and AutoCAD drawings.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications to identify root causes of malfunctions.
- Assist in studies relating to equipment capability and efficiency improvement
- Perform work to CSA standards and PHSR guidelines
- Maintain equipment logs and software back-ups
- It is an essential function of this position that the associate be on the work site in person to perform their job duties throughout each scheduled work week due to required direct interaction with physical infrastructure, equipment, and/or staff

- Support TSCA safety policies, procedures and work instructions including, but not limited to, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, hot work, machine entry, training equipment requiring certification of competency, live electrical equipment safety and management of change
- Other duties as required
What you bring to the position:
- 3+ years of related work experience on PLC’s and HMI’s in manufacturing environment
- A registered trade ticket – Electrician (Industrial/Construction), professional designation (E.G. P.ENG), or related post-secondary degree/diploma
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing/walking continuously over an 8-hour shift; ability to lift up to 35lbs heavy objects at all levels; ability to kneel, crouch, bend, reach, grip, pinch), including the ability to operate various maintenance tools and equipment.
- Willing to work overtime through the week and/or on weekends and scheduled shutdown periods (as required)
- Must be a self-starter who is able to work with minimal supervision
- Strong English communication skills (verbal/written)
- Ability to travel internationally, if required
Assets:
- Understanding of robotics and automated delivery systems
- Proficient in drawings and schematics (mechanical, pneumatics, hydraulics) troubleshooting and assembly
- Mechanically inclined
- Experience in repairing systems to specifications
- Practical knowledge of complete preventative and predictive maintenance (implement)
- Safe working habits (lockout/tagout, de-energizing procedures) compliant with all applicable safety legislation/company policies
- Valid driver’s license for local travel
