Duties and responsibilities
- Preparing, organizing, and maintaining project sites, including unloading equipment, setting up dust collection systems, power distribution, and polishing machinery;
- Reviewing project specifications, slab conditions, exposure requirements, and surface tolerances to determine appropriate grinding, refining, and polishing procedures;
- Operating remote-controlled and walk-behind concrete grinders, industrial dust collection systems, floor polishing equipment, edge grinders, burnishers, and associated tooling;
- Mechanically refining concrete surfaces through multiple grinding, honing, and polishing stages to achieve specified exposure levels, including cream, salt-and-pepper, random aggregate, and full aggregate finishes;
- Performing specialized machine power-grouting procedures to improve surface density, reduce porosity, and enhance floor appearance and performance;
- Applying densification treatments throughout various stages of the polishing process, including potassium, hybrid silicate, and lithium densifiers in accordance with company polishing systems and project specifications;
- Installing joint fillers, repairing cracks, correcting surface defects, performing colour matching patch work, and completing concrete restoration work prior to and during polishing operations;
- Performing edge work vertical and corner detail polishing to ensure consistency between field areas, walls, columns, penetrations, and hard-to-reach locations;
- Installing penetrating sealers and surface protection systems designed to improve stain resistance and long-term floor performance;
- Monitoring tooling wear, machine performance, and production rates to maintain company quality standards and project schedules;
- Conducting quality control inspections throughout the grinding and polishing process to verify clarity, reflectivity, exposure level, flatness, and overall finish consistency;
- Loading, transporting, maintaining, cleaning, and performing routine inspections of company equipment, vehicles, trailers, grinders, vacuums, generators, and tooling inventory;
- Working on active construction sites while coordinating with general contractors, project managers, site supervisors, home owners and other trades to maintain production schedules and site safety;
- Travelling to project locations throughout Ontario and occasionally working out of town when required by project schedules;
- Completing daily production reports, equipment inspections, safety documentation, and project records as required;
- Following all company health and safety policies, including proper use of personal protective equipment, silica dust control procedures, lockout protocols, and construction site safety requirements;
- Participating in ongoing training related to advanced concrete polishing systems, equipment operation, tooling technology, and surface refinement techniques; and
- Maintaining Northern Concrete Refinement & Polishing Corporation's quality standards by delivering mechanically polished concrete floors in accordance with company procedures and customer expectations.
This position does not require any provincial license or certification in Ontario.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Concrete Polisher, Concrete Grinder, Concrete Finisher, Concrete Refinement Technician, or in a similar concrete construction role;
- Experience operating concrete grinding, honing, polishing, and surface refinement equipment to achieve specified floor finish and aggregate exposure requirements;
- Experience operating Husqvarna Hiperfloor/Superfloor, Worx Plus, HTC, Lavina, Scanmaskin, or similar planetary grinding systems;
- Experience with mechanically polished concrete systems;
- Experience using industrial HEPA dust collection equipment;
- Experience performing concrete surface preparation, grinding, polishing, densification, power grouting, concrete repairs, restoration work, and surface refinement procedures;
- Experience with concrete densifiers, grouts, joint fillers, penetrating sealers, and concrete repair materials;
- Experience repairing cracks, correcting surface defects, and performing patching and restoration work on concrete surfaces;
- Experience operating remote-controlled grinding equipment is an asset;
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, project requirements, and site instructions;
- Experience working on commercial or residential concrete construction projects;
- WHMIS, Working at Heights, and Construction Safety Training are assets;
- Valid G Class Driver's Licence is an asset;
- Willingness to travel throughout Ontario and work away from home when required;
- Ability to work extended hours during critical project schedules;
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds;
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in active construction environments;
- Knowledge of construction safety standards, silica dust control procedures, safe work practices, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE);
- Ability to follow directions from supervisors and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision;
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship and finish consistency;
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; and
- Ability to perform physical labour requiring continual standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, twisting, reaching, lifting, and carrying throughout the workday.
