About Caution Tape Robotics Club
Caution Tape Robotics Club provides hands-on robotics, coding, AI, and engineering education for students in Ontario.
Our AI Project Labs go beyond teaching students how to code. Students learn how to take an idea from a problem worth solving to a working product: understanding users, defining requirements, scoping an MVP, prototyping, building with modern AI-assisted development tools, testing, iterating, deploying, and presenting their work.
We are looking for a coach who has gone through that process themselves and can help students learn how real products get built.
The Role
We are hiring an AI Product Development Coach to mentor students as they design and build their own software projects.
This is not primarily a lecture-based coding instructor position.
You will work alongside students as they make decisions, encounter problems, debug their ideas, adjust scope, use AI development tools effectively, and turn early concepts into working products.
The ideal candidate is a current college/university student, recent graduate, or early-career developer who enjoys building things and working with young people.
What You'll Help Students Learn
Guide students through the product-development process:
- Identify a real user and problem worth solving
- Turn an idea into clear product requirements
- Define and scope an achievable MVP
- Prototype and evaluate possible solutions
- Use AI tools to accelerate development without blindly accepting generated code
- Build and integrate frontend, backend, databases, and APIs as needed
- Test with users and identify what isn't working
- Debug, iterate, and improve based on feedback
- Deploy a working product
- Explain and present their product decisions
Your role is not to build projects for students. It is to ask the right questions, provide technical direction when needed, and help students become more independent builders.
Who We're Looking For
You may be a strong fit if you are:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree/diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Someone who has personally taken a software project from idea to working product
- Comfortable building modern web applications and learning unfamiliar technologies when necessary
- Familiar with AI-assisted development tools and interested in how AI is changing software development
- Able to explain technical and product concepts clearly without taking over the work
- Curious, resourceful, and comfortable figuring things out when there isn't an obvious answer
- Patient and comfortable mentoring younger students
We care more about what you've built and how you think than the number of years you've worked professionally.
Technical Background
You should be comfortable with several of the following:
- JavaScript / TypeScript
- React or another modern frontend framework
- HTML / CSS
- REST APIs and third-party API integration
- SQL / Postgres or similar databases
- Git and GitHub
- Deploying web applications
You do not need to be an expert in every technology listed above.
AI-Native Development
Experience with modern AI development workflows is strongly preferred, including tools such as:
- Claude Code
- Cursor
- GitHub Copilot or similar coding agents
- Git/GitHub
- Vercel or similar deployment platforms
We are particularly interested in candidates who understand how to use AI as a development tool while still being able to reason about architecture, requirements, debugging, testing, and code quality.
What We'd Love to See
We're especially interested if you've done one or more of the following:
- Launched an app, website, SaaS product, game, or other working software
- Built a project that has actual users
- Created a substantial personal or school project beyond the assignment requirements
- Participated in hackathons or startup projects
- Contributed meaningfully to an open-source project
- Built internal tools or automations that solve a real problem
- Taken a project through multiple iterations based on user feedback
- Worked on an early-stage startup or product team
Personal and student projects absolutely count.
Teaching & Coaching
Previous teaching experience is helpful, but it is not required.
More importantly, you should be able to:
- Ask questions instead of immediately giving students the answer
- Break complicated problems into manageable steps
- Recognize when a student's project scope is unrealistic
- Help students debug both their code and their thinking
- Give clear, constructive feedback
- Adapt your explanation to different skill levels
- Keep students moving toward a finished product
Application
Along with your resume, please tell us about one product or project you have personally built.
Include:
- What did you build?
- Who was it for, or what problem did it solve?
- What was your role?
- What technologies/tools did you use?
- Did anyone actually use it?
- What changed between your original idea and the final version?
Please include a GitHub repository, live product, demo, portfolio, or other example if available.
We don't expect every project to be commercially successful. We want to understand how you build, make decisions, and solve problems.
