Under the guidance of the Senior Psychologist, the Behaviour Support Technician plays a crucial role in sustaining behavioral programs for students identified as needing Applied Behaviour Analysis services. This role is vital in assuring that referred students acquire effective, individualized behavioral help, which significantly contributes to their academic and social growth. The Behaviour Support Technician collaborates closely with educational staff to model and train Applied Behaviour Analysis strategies, create essential resources and meticulously track student progress to assure skills are sustained and enhanced. Additionally, the Behaviour Support Technician delivers comprehensive training on behavioral data collection methods and Applied Behaviour Analysis practices to board staff, fostering a consistent and effective approach to behavior management across the board. This role is integral to creating a growth mindset and inclusive educational environment that empowers students to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer classroom wide and direct Applied Behaviour Analysis intervention for students, assuring that each student gains tailored help that addresses their unique needs
- Models, instructs and supports school staff to apply Applied Behaviour Analysis strategies effectively, enhancing the overall capacity of the educational team and to help diverse behavioural needs
- Meticulously examine and acquire data, following guidelines and supervision from the Registered Behaviour Analyst, to help develop evidence-based strategies tailored for each student
- Create innovative and effective materials to help the application of Applied Behaviour Analysis strategies, such as visual aids and reinforcement tools
- Deliver immediate and effective Applied Behaviour Analysis interventions during urgent situations and behavioural crises
- Help students during critical transitions (eg. Starting school, moving between schools, changing boards, relocating out of the country)
- Sustain detailed clinical supervision notes, evaluates data, and assures strict adherence to relevant legislation related to standards and practice, ethics confidentiality and consent
- Offers comprehensive training and professional development sessions to school and board staff, enhancing their skills related to Applied Behavior Analysis interventions and Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Additional tasks as assigned
Required Skills and Qualifications:
The successful candidate will bring the following skills and experiences to the role:
- Autism and Behavioural Science Diploma, Behavioural Science Diploma, or relevant Diploma in the field of applied behaviour analysis.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in an Applied Behaviour Analysis related role
- Experience with the delivery of behaviour analytic services (IBI, ABA, ABA consultation)
- Experience with the delivering training on behaviour analytic program implementation
- Experience providing behavioural supports to children and youth in a multidisciplinary setting
- Experience working with individuals with ASD.
- Competent with computer programs, in particular graphing with Excel or Sheets
The following would be considered an asset:
- Experience working with Children/youth with special needs, particularly those with ASD, in a school setting
- Experience consulting to and working with educational professionals
- Certification in Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) Training or related crisis intervention training (e.g., NVCPI; UMAB)
