JOB POSITION INFORMATION:
The Safety & Compliance Manager is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of safety, regulatory compliance, and operational risk. This role ensures adherence to federal, provincial/state, and industry regulations while driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety performance, fleet efficiency, and compliance standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Ensure full compliance with applicable transportation regulations, including all operating record platforms, hours of service, and safety standards.
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and implement necessary policy updates.
· Lead internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting requirements.
· Oversee driver log compliance (ELD/manual logs) and enforce adherence to hours-of-service regulations.
· Develop, monitor, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, compliance, fuel usage, and operational performance.
· Prepare dashboards and reports to track trends and identify areas for improvement.
· Establish measurable safety targets and lead initiatives to achieve continuous improvement.
· Manage operating record score performance and implement corrective actions to maintain or improve ratings.
· Analyze violation trends and develop prevention strategies.
· Ensure all safety programs meet regulatory and industry standards.
· Lead, coach, and manage a team of safety/compliance professionals and/or coordinators.
· Conduct performance reviews, set objectives, and support employee development.
· Foster a culture of safety accountability and continuous improvement.
· Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses.
· Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective and preventive actions.
· Maintain accurate records and ensure timely reporting to regulatory bodies and stakeholders.
· Identify gaps and inefficiencies in safety and compliance processes.
· Design/identify and deliver safety training programs for drivers and staff (e.g., compliance, defensive driving, HOS regulations).
· Track training completion and effectiveness of assigned modules.
· Monitor fuel consumption and identify opportunities to improve fuel efficiency.
· Oversees recruitment and onboarding of drivers – Owner Operators, Company and agency drivers.
· Travel for business or local and regional accident sites as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, or industry designation in Transportation, Logistics or related field
- 10+ years of experience in transportation safety and compliance.
- Strong knowledge of CVOR, SMS, and hours-of-service rules Canda and United States of America
- 5+ years progressive management experience including:
- Team management
- Safety programs
- ELD systems
- Fleet management and KPI reporting
