Position Summary
KC Trojans is seeking a qualified and motivated Technical Director to lead coach development, oversee technical programming, support player pathways, and help strengthen the overall soccer experience across the Club.
The Technical Director will work closely with the Executive Committee, coaches, technical trainers, players, families, and external soccer organizations. This role requires strong soccer knowledge, professional communication, consistent follow through, and a visible presence across Club programming.

Key Responsibilities
Coach Development and Mentorship
- Provide regular support, mentorship, feedback, and guidance to coaches.
- Lead coaches meetings with clear agendas and follow up.
- Create and support a seasonal coach development plan.
- Observe coaches during practices and games and provide constructive feedback.
- Support new, younger, or developing coaches who require additional mentorship.
- Identify common development themes and share session ideas, priorities, and technical guidance with coaches.
Technical Programming and Training Oversight
- Develop or approve technical training themes, session priorities, and program direction.
- Ensure technical sessions are organized, purposeful, age appropriate, and aligned with player development goals.
- Provide direction and support to technical trainers.
- Monitor the quality and consistency of technical training delivery.
- Support goalkeeper training, skill development, camps, preseason programming, and other special programs where applicable.
- Recommend improvements where programming gaps or development opportunities are identified.
Technical Staff Oversight
- Develop and manage technical trainer schedules.
- Ensure technical sessions are properly staffed and completed within the season schedule.
- Set expectations for technical trainers, including session themes, standards, and follow through.
- Review and verify trainer hours before payment submission.
- Address concerns related to attendance, quality, conduct, or delivery.
Team Presence and Field Support
- Maintain a planned and visible presence at practices and games throughout the season.
- Prioritize support for teams with new coaches, developing coaches, concerns, or higher support needs.
- Provide feedback to coaches following team observations.
- Identify development themes across teams and communicate recommendations to the Executive Committee where appropriate.
- Be visible and accessible to coaches and teams beyond scheduled technical training sessions.
Player Development and Pathways
- Support player development pathways aligned with Club needs and applicable soccer guidelines.
- Support tryouts, assessments, and team formation.
- Help ensure players are placed appropriately based on development needs and team fit.
- Identify and communicate development opportunities, including identification camps, provincial program opportunities, academy opportunities, and higher level pathways.
- Build relationships with organizations that may support player development and advancement.
Provincial and National Preparation
- Connect directly with coaches of teams that qualify for Provincials or Nationals.
- Offer and provide technical preparation support before competition.
- Attend or support a pre-Provincials or pre-Nationals session where reasonably possible.
- Provide guidance on preparation, team needs, tactical considerations, and development priorities.
External Representation and Club Communication
- Represent KC Trojans professionally at required EMSA, Alberta Soccer, technical director, and related soccer meetings.
- Share key information, recommendations, risks, opportunities, and action items with the Executive Committee or Board.
- Communicate proactively, clearly, and respectfully with coaches, Board members, technical staff, families, and external partners.
- Raise issues, barriers, risks, or concerns early and provide recommended next steps where appropriate.
- Maintain appropriate records and provide regular updates, including monthly reporting to the Executive Committee.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Hold a Canada Soccer C License at minimum and be actively working toward the Canada Soccer B License.
- A higher Canada Soccer coaching license is desirable and will be considered an asset.
- Strong technical soccer knowledge and experience supporting player and coach development.
- Experience planning, leading, or overseeing technical soccer programming.
- Strong communication, organization, and follow through.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with coaches, players, families, technical staff, volunteers, Board members, and external soccer organizations.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback and support continuous improvement.
- Understanding of player pathways, assessments, team formation, and age appropriate development.
- Commitment to safe sport principles, professional conduct, and a respectful Club environment.
- Required background screening, safe sport, and other Club or governing body requirements must be completed or maintained as applicable.
Availability and Time Commitment
The Technical Director must be available during key Club periods, including season planning, tryouts and assessments, team formation, coach onboarding, technical trainer scheduling, the start of indoor and outdoor seasons, technical programming periods, tournament preparation, and Provincials or Nationals preparation.
The role requires a planned and visible presence across Club programming. Specific time commitment, schedule expectations, compensation, and deliverables will be confirmed through the role agreement.
