Senior Systems Administrator
About Us:
We are an employee and family-owned business that has been in operation for more than 130 years. As a Senior Systems Administrator, you will be working with a team of professionals to support and advance the systems that run our business. Make a meaningful contribution while enjoying a strong culture and a sustainable work-life balance.
Why Work With Us?
We understand that technology not only makes our company more efficient but also helps us differentiate our business with our customers. As a result, Andrew Sheret Limited has a long history of developing innovative, industry-leading IT solutions.
This is an environment where technical decisions matter, systems evolve over time, and thoughtful work is expected. You will be working with a team that values clarity of thought, strong execution, and a shared commitment to improving how things are done.
At Andrew Sheret Limited, you will have the opportunity to:
- Collaborate with intelligent, engaged technical peers who take pride in their work
- Take ownership of systems and see the impact of your decisions over time
- Be challenged by problems that require depth, not just familiarity
- Contribute to the technical direction of the organization and influence how systems and practices evolve
- Expand your skills through a wide variety of technical challenges and interesting problems
We expect a high level of contribution, and in return provide the context, support, and environment required to do that work well.
What Are We Offering?
What really makes Andrew Sheret a great place to work is the friendly, supportive team of people that you get to work with every day. We also offer everyone on our team an excellent compensation package including:
- A competitive salary starting at $85,000.00 - $125,000.00 per annum. Wages may be negotiated with relevant experience
- Excellent extended health and dental plans for you and your family
- A matching program for your RRSP to help you grow your financial well-being
- An annual performance bonus
- An employee share program that rewards you when you reach key anniversaries
- Assistance with tuition or skills training relevant to your role
What Will You Be Doing?
Working from our office in Calgary, you will design, implement, and operate systems that support the company’s core infrastructure and applications.
This role involves both day-to-day operational responsibility and project-based work, including:
- Architecting and maintaining infrastructure across compute, storage, and network domains
- Working through complex production issues where root cause is not immediately apparent, applying structured problem-solving and collaborating with others to reach resolution
- Leading or contributing to projects involving system design, deployment, or migration
- Improving system reliability, observability, and operational consistency
- Supporting and evolving the platforms used by both IT and development teams
- Contributing to technical standards and practices across the organization
- Operating in environments where decisions carry operational consequences and are made with appropriate review and input from the team
You will encounter systems that are well understood and others that require investigation and careful reasoning. In both cases, the expectation is ownership, sound judgement, and steady improvement over time.
The diversity of this role ensures that this position offers a broad and exciting range of technical challenges and opportunities.
How We Work:
This role is not limited to narrowly defined tasks or rigid execution of runbooks; however, established practices and standards are used wherever they are appropriate.
Work is structured around clear objectives, priorities, and collaboration within the team. Where established approaches exist, they are used; where they do not, they are developed deliberately and with input from others. Work is prioritized and scoped clearly, with the expectation that complexity is addressed thoughtfully rather than deferred.
You will be expected to work through ambiguity when necessary—but not in isolation. The team works collaboratively, and access to experienced peers and leadership support is readily available when needed. The focus is on solving problems properly, not simply deferring or working around them. Technical judgement, thoughtful decision-making and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with peers are highly valued.
What Are We Looking For?
We are looking for a hands-on systems administrator who wants to contribute meaningfully to the technical direction of the environment they work in.
The work can be challenging. The expectation is not perfection, but engagement, curiosity, follow-through, and a willingness to work through complex problems, while remaining sensitive to the business needs and compromises underlying each task.
This role will be a strong fit for individuals who prefer environments where they can take ownership of systems and continue to deepen their technical and professional capabilities over time.
